How to replace coolant/
Hey, I know this might sound like a dumb question but... My car started overheating badly yesterday, even though the engine was just started a few mins before. The heat guage went all the way to the red on my 2nd gen integra and putting the heat on did nothing. Stopped the car, I have no coolant and made steam coming out. What kind of temporary replacement is water? Just need it for a day to go to work and back (pay check is tomorrow).
And would I pour the water in from that cap above the radiator that says "warning, don't open if engine is hot"

you got it right. pour water in thru the radiator cap as you suggested.
NEVER pour cold water into a warm, running engine, it can crack internals like the head because of the temperature difference.
NEVER pour water into a dry *** radiator while th eengine is running or even off because it may shoot the water right back out at your face since the radiator will be ultra hot!
you can use water, distilled water is preferred. get that at any supermarket or CVS/Eckerds/Walgreens/etc.
is your thermostat stuck closed or is your coolant system leaking?

Yeah good advice. I would definitely find out why you lost your coolant. You might want to throw a few jugs of water in your trunk if you take your car out. You want to get coolant back into it asap, cold weather is rapidly approaching. Good Luck.

Re: How to replace coolant/ (Need4Boost)
Hey you did'nt mention if you had any ideas as whether it was leaking or not. I'd suggest after putting the water in and driving around a bit...to pop the hood and see if any of the hoses running from the radiator are leaking at all. Or even after you park, check back and see if there's anything dripping from under your car and find out where its coming from. Good luck.
