Default Will this look ok?

I bought some clear smoked tint spray and some clear coat. Testors brand. I want to paint my tail lights like the ones C-Mugen R has. Do you think it will come out even if I paint only the outer edges or will it look un-smooth? Advice? Thanks.

Good luck. A professional body shop did his, you will need mad masking skills to accomplish the same thing.

No need to mask them, just take them off your car.

If you're talking about masking the area where the reflectors are, it's pretty easy. Use basic masking tape and take your time around...pretty simple.

Good luck.

Yup. I plan to remove them from the car. Mask the area inside. Then spray a 2 coats or so, then spray a clear coat over. Should turn out smooth? I'm afraid that it will not look smooth as the rest because of the layer of paint.

Well, that's what the clear coat will do. Smooth it out no?

JUst ask a graffiti artist to do it-it's all about can control. For intricate masking, pick up the 3M pinstriping/flame tape. It's this thin blue tape that's really flexible, and won't crease like masking tape around corners

I would like to see the end result too. If you mess up, can you use paint thinner to take off the paint w/o damaging the lens?

paint thinner can start to eat away at the lens if you're not careful. If you do mess up, use Goo Gone before the paint dries and it shouldn;t harm the plastic.

Electrical tapes works really good too for curves and leaves a sharper and cleaner edge then masking tape.

You can paint stuff with cans and make it look like it was professionally done.

This is what you do....

Paint your parts. Try to keep the coats even and thin. Once you have enough coats lightly WET sand it with some 600-1000 grit sandpaper. Use this to get the "fish-eyes" out. Once you are done with that, get some 3m fine cut polishing compound. Use a 100% cotton tshirt or terry/polishing cloth and buff that ****** to a shine.

Even cars that are sprayed in a booth come out just a rough as a good spray can job. They still need to get wetsanded and buffed as well.

Go buy removable spray tint from any Japanese autopart stores. Its a little expensive around $30.00 a can but if you screwed up, u can peel it off.
