Default Who ACTUALLY has the Hondata intake gasket ON their R?

I bypassed the system a few days ago and much to my dismay the car does as Hondata said it would..

OVERHEAT.

The intake temps stay wonderfully cool, but you cannot drive the car in traffic without the temp slider all the way over to the HOT side.

Makes it nice during the summer huh?!

Hondata says to drill the thermostat.... I won't pretend to understand the cooling system of the Type-R let alone ANY car....but does anybody have any clue how to do this before I break out the drill and drill bits and attack my thermostat?

RA who is seriously regretting NOT cutting the gasket block off instead of running the bypass race setup for daily use....

then why dont you cut the bypass whole out and rid yourself of the overheating problem.

because I already butchered the hoses and going back to the original setup would require buying new hoses.....

I've gone this far so why not drill the damn thermostat too?

Steve, I'd like to hear your opinion on how to install the hondata gasket. I've considered installing one to lower temps from my blower. Is it best to cut the hole in the gasket, or is there more to it than that?

You didnt do what i TOLD YOU to do did you?!?!
I dun recall you telling me anything!? Please repeat so all of us can benefit wise Sempai....~

EDIT: This is all I could find that you mentioned:

=========
Also, its not coolant flow TO the head, its coolant flow FROM the head.
Coolant gets to the head from the block and exits the head to the radiator and
to the thermostat housing and heater core.
=========

I'm trying to think of what I have to do.....and my brain....says......"No"

EDIT:

FOUND IT.... Brain still works marginally.....:

===========
you do not have to drill the thermostat.
All you have to do it tee the heater line coming from the side of the head
to the port that the other line went to on the thermostat housing.
===========

Now brain must visualize what wise Sempai is saying....and brain....says...."No"

Original line went from intake manifold to thermostat housing

Now, there is a heater hose coming out from the side of the cyl head that goes to
heater core. You cut that in the appropriate place, and put a "T" there.
From that T, run a line that goes to the port on the thermostat housing where the
old line(see the first line in this post) went to.

So essentially what I did here was INCOMPLETE....or downright INCORRECT?

i'm using hondata gasket street version and no problems at all with overheating. i also bypassed the TB and IACV valve. the manifold runs very cool.

Sgt, can u be more specific about the racing install? i didn't know how to do it so i cut the little square piece on the gasket.

gsr98vtec: It would be GREATLY appreciated if you could snap some pix.... I'm sitting here at 4am eyes watering thinking of what I can do since it's more than likely Acura won't have those hoses in stock at my dealership....

and thought of driving with the heat on makes my HAIR sweat.....

I got a 12hour drive in 2days....

just take the t out of the hose you tapped and replace it with one with a straight metal pipe.

gsr 98vtec is right.. you tap the line from the thermo housing to the line that goes underneath the vtec solenoid

Heater hose:
a.k.a: the one that goes to your HEATER core
a.k.a: the one that provides your heat that makes your hair sweat
a.k.a: just about the only one 1" (thereabouts) in dia on the dist side of the "head"
a.k.a: the little thinggy that is mounted to your firewall and has a little wire thing on it and a hosey thingy hooked on to it then goes to that thing called a head maybe a cylinder head.

have one on me ....

Few questions:

1. How much cooler will the engine run with this race setup vs just cutting the coolant block on the hondata gasket?

2. There are two heater hoses, the one we should tee is the long one located under the VTEC solenoid, right?

3. Do you plug the coolant line on the intake manifold now that it is no longer in use?

4. How good of a seal is the Hondata gasket (with the coolant block uncut) against coolant leaks? Anybody ever had it blow out on you?

Thanks.

You have already cut that piece, so you can't go back now to the racing setup.....
I don't the Hondata gasket but I have also bypassed the TB and IACV. Did you just connect the hose from the return pipe to the intake manifold?

Sgt,

did u also take out the support bracket under the manifold, can i discard it?

how much of a difference in temp is from the street version to the race one? does it stay alot more cooler?

what about gains, personally i didn't notice anything after the instalation...
