I think it's for the chime. The chime is bolted to the stamped steel plate that covers the bottom of the steering shaft by your knees.

hrmm.. are you talking about the door ajar chime when the key is in the ignition? if so the chime still works

speaking of which, is that plate "important" ? ... I took it out...

what colors are the wires?
and the stripes on them. I can look it up in the helms.
also i have a PDF of the helms manual, PM me if you want a copy
without more info here are the 2 pin connectors that it could be:
1. Roof wire harness {C663}
2. Clutch interlock switch
3. Clutch switch (With cruise control)
4. Brake switch without cruise
