Default Vtech problem on my ITR

Ok i searched and couldnt find anything on this. But i have a b18c5 swapped into my si, and vtech used to kick in around 6k. But now it seems that in 1st and 2nd gear it isnt engaging until about 7k and is muffled and isnt as loud as it once was. and in 3rd gear it engages at 6k and is normal loudness but as it climbs up to redline it will cut out. it will be loud then soft then loud then soft. I was thinking maybe a injector or spark plug issue. Has anyone experinced this? and does anyone have any thoughts on what it could be?

Thanks

Could be the vtec solenoid, or oil pressure switch. Or, you could be low on oil. Check your oil first.

p.s. spell VTEC correctly. Spelling it VTECH on here, is like going to church and spelling Jeebus wrong.

Like Chris F said I would try to check your oil first since vtec needs oil in order to operate properly, and if it is the oil I would definitely keep an eye on this as it normally takes about 2+ quarts of oil missing for vtec to not operate

Where do all of these B18C5 motors come from??? It seems like every damn civic has one now. It is starting to make me crazy.

Perhaps we should start stealing civics to get the type r motors back??? Just look for a big wing on the back of a civic and it will probally have a type R motor in it.

I was at a car event over in Hampton Va a couple of weeks ago. I saw atleast 10 out of the 100 show cars there with a B18C5 motor (no vins) and they weren't integras.

I hope your stolen motor never works again.

There was a time when other users felt the way you're feeling now.

There are legal and illegal hybrids on this board. But out of courtesy, we give them all the benefit of the doubt, until we can PROVE otherwise.

Well it is probably the oil. when i bought the car a while back the guy told me that it burns about a quart every 1k miles. and it has been 2k miles since my last oil change so I will put 2 quarts in and see if that fixes it.

Be sure not to overfill it. Check on the dip stick when it's level. Don't blindly add 2 quarts.

And yeah, check your oil when you fill up with gas.

Jebus, give him a break. The car is my old car, motor is legit, originally the motor was from a 01 itr, the owner noticed it burned oil so he had it replace under warrenty at the time. I knew the dealer at the acura dealership (in newport news) and was able to purchase the long block for very cheap. Motor has had all the piston rings replace, but it still burns a little oil so I suspect the oil burning issue to be a valve seal. Car has been worked on by respectable guys on this board, i.e. Willard and Jack, and is toda equiped. You really should think twice before suspecting someone of stealing chit. Trust me I had a friend that has had his si stolen, last thing I'd want to do is support these fockers and buy a HOT motor.

I had to read that post and the previous post like 3 times to figure out if you were bleeding with sarcasm like "Yeah right, it's WAY legit"... depends on who you were replying to, which isn't shown.

Cliffs: legit.

Haha yeah, no sarcasm, the motor is clean. My rep for extreme sarcasm set a precedent for me . Eric's been a friend for quite a few years, good guy, even though he has big chicken strips

Sorry if offended. More or less was directed to the other questionable motors I've seen. Just wondering if anyone else finds it as amazing that there are so many civics with ITR parts(engines)? I guess it's just a popular motor that is so readily available at your local parts store. Just frustrated with all of the stolen car threads and attemted thefts I've heard about. Tired of wanting to be normal and not worry constantly about where and when my car will be stolen. Good luck getting your legit motor running right.
