Default OT: Urgent Legislative Alert!!!

[b]URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

New California Greenhouse Gas Emissions Bill Passes Legislature; Immediate Action Requested

In an underhanded maneuver, the California Legislature passed an alternative bill (A.B. 1493) to regulate "greenhouse gases," including carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from motor vehicles. While the new bill prohibits regulators from reducing speed limits, restricting vehicle size or imposing new taxes or fees, it is little more than a back-door effort by environmentalists to set fuel-economy standards - an authority exclusively reserved to the Federal Government. Because CO2 is given off whenever gasoline is burned, the only way to cut emissions is to make vehicles that burn less gasoline or vehicles driven by electricity or other means. The new bill still represents bad public policy. Accordingly, we need your help.

Please Contact Gov. Gray Davis Immediately Requesting That He Oppose The Bill

· A.B. 1493 amounts to an illegal state effort to regulate fuel economy, and contradicts Federal Government policy in opposition to dramatic increases to CAFE standards.

· A.B. 1493 will still result in the downsizing of cars and light trucks, limiting vehicle choice and increasing costs.

· A.B. 1493 could cause other states to follow California's misguided effort in setting unreasonable emissions rules on vehicles.

· A.B. 1493 could limit the sale and use of performance-related specialty automotive parts which enhance towing, hill-climbing ability, etc.

Call or e-mail the Governor's Office immediately to oppose A.B. 1493. Governor Davis can be reached at:

Phone: 916/445-2841
Fax: 916/445-4633
E-mail: governor@governor.ca.gov

Thanks again for your prompt attention to this matter. [b]

That sucks ***..... I do believe that the legislators are probably targeting the yuppies in their Navigators with their 9 mpg gas guslers.... Just wondering, do the mods that we do to our cars really effect the carbon dioxide output of our cars or is it just mis-informed legislators and the EPA screwing us
