max BOOST for stock ITR
hey just wondering what is the max boost pressure u can run on a stock internal Type R? is 10 psi overkill if the car is being tuned by a standalone ems?

Re: (Black R)
cool. i was only gonna run 10 psi max. but i was wondering since this is a high compression motor, i might run into problems. i'll just retard timing a little bit more for higher boost numbers

10 psi on what?
A T25? GT35R?
You can't gauge what a motor can take by boost levels, but by WHP.

I'm surprised you gave an answer. Different turbos and other differences can change that answer a bit.
My reply would have been to ask for more info on what parts/etc he's using.
edit: err. I was beat to the reply.

I would have to agree.
Contact Dr. Pooface in here. He just got a turbo kit installed with stock internals.

That's definitely a loaded question because there are a huge number of factors that will determine how many hours, of years the motor will withstand boost.
I've been running 10 Psig boost with my setup for 3.5 years (about 35K miles). On the dyno my boost levels creeped to 11.5 Psig, I've since gone to a larger wastegate.

Man I would personally think about boosting on stock block...its really not a good idea...but if you choose to go this route make sure the car is tuned properly....otherwise bye bye...factory p73 pistons!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with boosting on a stock block. You just can't be an idiot when doing so.

There is nothing wrong with boosting a stock block if you know what you are doing. I run 7 psi daily and have been for about 2 years. It spikes at times to 10 but it's not bad. I run a t3/t67 turbo.

He has an ITR with Toda Spec C cams, a chipped P28 and a VAFC or some other VTEC controller with a home made/pieced together nitrous setup with a 100 shot pill on his stock block that has 40k on it total, or with the above mods (not sure which, the post wasn't clear on that part).

I got to get me one of THOSE!
If you boost a stock internaled ITR, and you take it to HPDE's, plan on saving for a rebuild (I did!).
10 PSI with a Greddy kit isn't unreasonable, that's what I was running. Other higher efficiency setups will blow chunks at 8 PSI. YMMV. Stay under 300 WHP if you don't change any internals.
Of course, I probably blew ringlands at 10 PSI, ran it at the track a few more times at 8 PSI until #3 bit the dust. Now I get to build the motor and get more b00st! (Hooray!)

problem with these kits isnt the 8 lbs or higher...its the creep that gets you.

How about three days with a horrible 12-14lb boost spike

I agree. Though once you get it all dialed in and you don't have very much creep...I wouldn't boost more than 8lbs max to be on the safe side while running a stock bottom end. I am now learning the hard way and it's costing me thousands. **** happens I guess.
If you have the time and money...do all the internal work first. You will be much happier with yourself.

Re: (Haleiwa-Brando)
thanks alot guys. i appreciate all the info. right now we're just gonna tune the type r on a conservative 5 psi (car doesnt have a boost controller to up the psi. car's run n on a 5 lb spring)once he gets the boost controller we'll only raise boost to 8 psi max
