Default leak down result opinions

Good morning all,

Over the weekend I finally hit the track. We went to Buttonwillow and found out an issue with my JRSC ITR.

I'm burning a lot of oil, over a quart per 20 minute session.

So we did a leak down test last night and cylinder #1 and 2 were 40 PSI out of 90 and cylinder #3 and 4 were around 89 out of 90.

I wanted to hear peoples opinion on what the issue could be. Please let me know if you need to know any other information about the car.

Thanks
Shah

Basic worn compression rings. Even 90psi is dead low on an itr, howw many miles on the engine? It'll happen when you push an engine hard, especially with forced induction

Other questions..is the engine built to handle a SC? Original miles? More info and people can help more

I'm a newbie when it comes to engines first of all.

We didnt do a compression test, but a leak down. A compression test would yield better numbers from at least cylinder 3 and 4.

The car has 110k miles original miles.

The engine has stock internals, 440cc injectors, the JRSC, CRV pulley.

If thats the case then I'm at 44% on cylinder 1 and 2.

I'm going to take her to Kiwi motors this week and get John's opinion.

Leakdown test is measured in percentages. Put each cylinder in TDC and apply pressure. I recommend a Snap On guage

https://store.snapon.com/Cylinder-Le...e-P650761.aspx

Disconnect the air filter plenum and oil cap. Listen for air leaks in exhaust, intake and oilcap to pinpoint leak. Oil cap = bad piston rings, intake and exhaust leak = valves. Peek at coolant reservoir if its leaking, you have a head gasket problem.

44% is a lot. Im gonna guess you probably have bad guide seals. But as always, its a car so anything can happen. Hope this helps.

Please post whatbyou find as I am curious as well

I did the same on my R this weekend as well and was sad to hear the leakdown myself... I was at 40% lost and you could hear that each cyl 2-4 were blowing Vapor to the oil valve cover vent/ or Oil cap and cyl one was the only cyl holding at 20% lost.. I took it a little further and wanted to check the Compression as well and each were strange, Cyl 4-1 120/90/90/120. which I am debating if I need to just do a rebuild or not....Don't forget your suppose to let your motor warm up, cause that's when I realize ill have to do another Leakdown test again when I have the time... working two jobs takes a toll on your body.

Definetly look into changing to pcv valve and making sure its working and not clogged also what kind of oil are you using? I use to burn alot more oil when i used mobil1 now I switched to castrol and it burns much much less now
