Default Jet-Hot coating for header: Any first-hand experiences with this process?

I tried this post in the Integra forum yesterday and got very little feedback. So, I'm hoping I have better luck here. Thanks.
================
Thanks to the group buy arranged by the always hard-working Carlex (Trey), I will soon be in receipt of a brand spankin' new JDM 4-1 header, as well as a new Carsound cat, for my GS-R. I've done some investigating about "Jet-Hot" (a high-tech coating process) for the header, and it seems like a solid investment. I was hoping to hear directly from anyone who has used Jet Hot to get your evaluative feedback and impressions. Thanks for taking time to reply.

Casey

Keep on reading below if you're interested in reading Jet-Hot's email reply to my request for a price quote. BTW, this company has impressed me so far. I got this reply a few hours after I sent it in. A few days latter, I get a very nicely prepared info kit in the mail -- they're definitely trying hard to earn my business.

Dear Casey,
I assume the 4cyl header would be bare or just painted. The price to prep and
coat in&out with the sterling silver finish(1300degree) is $165+$18s&h
back.Add $20 for the flat black, blue or grey finish(1300degree).The jet hot
2000 runs up to 2400 degrees. This coating only comes in a flat black, blue or
grey with a griddy finish on the outside. The jet hot 2k is $25 more than the
sterling silver finish.
All parts receive a 3year unlimited guarantee that covers chipping, peeling,
cracking, discoloration, rusting – anything. New parts also get a lifetime
rust through warranty as well.

Please ship your parts to:

Just be sure to include your name and return info. so we know who they

either include a credit card number with the parts or you can call one in to
the phone number listed below.

Thanks

Man, give me the email address you used for them. I've sent them *3* emails and have received *0* responses so far. Until this post I decided to just give up on Jet Hot but now I want to try one more time.

Dave,

Here you go: Chris Morris [chris@jet-hot.com]

Hope they do better for you. Please let me know if you have more problems. It would be important for me to know before I send an expensive piece of metal to them

I used them and they were great. Took about 1 week to do the whole process (that includes shipping time). i am very pleased with the quality of the work; definately worth the money.

Very professional bunch of people!!!!! Here is a picture of mine. It has turned to a gray color after use but, I think my exhaust is running too hot, so yours may not turn.

ITR 01-0840: Is that what they call the sterling silver finish? Your header looks like it was chrome plated That looks great! Thanks for the reply.

I've used the Jet-Hot coating on my bike headers for a few years and am happy with the results. The coating is very wear resistant and looks good even years later. My header had a little surface pitting, but the coating covered right over it and looks fine.

That is the sterling jet coat. Here is a picture of the header on the car.

Dave: Good to hear you got the response you were looking for. Glad to hear it.

ITR 01-0840: Thanks for posting the pic. I wasn't sure I wanted the sterling silver finish until now. That thing looks sweet!

One more quick question.. is the 1300degree coating enough for a non-FI B18C? or should I spend the extra 25 bucks for the 2400degree stuff?

Thanks

Dave,

Good question. Seems like $25 is not too much more to pay for the extra protection from the higher heat coating. I'm sure it can't hurt (except the wallet) but whether or not we really NEED it due to exhaust manifold temps exceeding 1300 degrees, I have no idea. The only other issue to consider is that the 2400degree coating apparently does not come in the sterling silver finish. And I have no idea what they mean by the "griddy" finish?!?

The 1300 degree finish was not enough for my car, it has turned to a dull silver due to the heat. Here is a picture that I took about two weeks ago, this is after 4000 miles on the header. The strange thing is the pipes on the bottom of the header are still Bling Bling but as you can see they have really changed color at the flange. Has anyone else installed a Jet Hot coated header in Sterling Silver on an R and had the same reaction with the finish?

I don't have any experience with jet hot but I have used HPC(high performance coatings) before. HPC is the same as jet hot only a little cheaper in price. I had some turbo parts coated. they discolored slightly but didn't flake off. The discoloration was due to the extreme heat of the turbo though. I can't imagine a normal header discoloring. hpc also has a lifetime warranty so if it does flake off hpc will recoat the parts for free. HPC is located in Arizona just like jet hot.

I had (and now my brother has) a JetHot coated header on my 1992 GS-R. It looked great new and faded to the slightly duller silver as shown in the above pics. It's not terrible, but I probably would have gotten black if I was to do it again because I like black headers.

The main reason I got JetHot was I live in the Rust Belt (NE) and didn't want the header to rust. So far, 60K miles and no rust. Works as advertised and well worth the $165.

The JetHot people were great -- good work and quick turn around. The only words of caution are to tap the threads (if any) in the header before you install to clear out any coating.
