Default How much BOOST?

Pardon my ignorance, but like all of us started at one point, I am too. I've been an All Motor guy for all my broke life (because I race) and I have no money.... But here is the scenario. Gave up the All Motor after I accomplished my goal... Now I turn to turbo. Here is the power plant:

B18C 11:1 Compression (ALL STOCK) Including clutch

BDL FUEL RAIL

440cc RC Injectors

Hondata S-300

T3/T4 Turbo - 8lbs - Cheap Ebay kit

Set up made 267hp

Ok.... I wasn't happy. I want to bump up the power so this is what I have in my garage and it will go all in this weekend.

Again B18C stock -
But now SUPERTECH block Guard
ARP Head Studs
Cometic Head gasket .40 thick (I believe stock is .30 right?)
BDL Fuel Rail
RC 750cc injectors
Walbro 255
S300 Hondata
Garrett T3/T4 Turbo
ACT 6 puck with spring clutch with heavy duty pressure plate

So the add ons are not major like sleeves, rods, etc. So can someone give me ideas on what to expect to be able to boost & HP that can also be reliable for a daily driven motor.

Here are some pictures at the track... Best E.T. so far has been 8.86 @ 76mph (1/8th mile) Note: on a stock clutch and a stock Type R. I have slicks but these are huge and didn't work for me (25X9) I just scored on some 23X8.5

every boosted car is different. you shouldnt be looking for how much boost/how much power if youre going to daily drive this car. just install all your parts bring it to your tuner, tell him its a DD car that you want reliable horsepower in, tell him make me the most without sacrificing reliability (which IMO is already sacrificed beause you boosted an ITR, but like i said thats just my opinion) dont go for a boost number, just see what your tuner can do without blowing you caR up. oh yea good luck

where to start?

head studs arent really needed.

there are like a million different variations of a "T3/T4" need real specs on it. if its ebay, just throw it away.

stock headgasket is .026 crushed, .029 out the box... you need like a .074, should drop you a full point.

block guard isnt gonna help.

and its no so much PSI/boost its how much air the turbo is actually moving into the motor... refer back to specs on "T3/T4"

wow a lot of nonsense in this thread already. First off my old set up on my ITR was an inline pro head gasket and block guard on pump gas and stock internals I was running 17psi on an old FMU/450cc injectors/ afc and missing link set up and made almost 300whp. I drove the car everyday for 2 years like that. On a Hondata and a safe tune you should make 300whp on a healthy motor even with a Ebay turbo

ARP head studs ARE a very good idea. The Inline pro HG was 3mm thick and dropped compression about a full point. Be realizstic about your goals and the amount of power you want to make. 300whp should be able to be made reliably if you do everything right. Shoot for 300whp and see how it looks. also talk to your tuner to decide how far they want to push it and feel they can do reliably.

As for slicks 23" will be fine for 300whp and you should come close to gettin 11 second time slips. I know with 309whp 242wtq my car with full interior with A/C and all I went 12.2@117mph on BFG 225/50/15 drag radials. With just over 400whp you will run out of gear in 4th on a USDM ITR tranny with stock redline on 23's

So it took you 17psi to make 300whp?

Anyway to the OP, sounds like you have a pretty solid motor. Headstuds and head gasket were a good idea but IMO the block gaurd really doesn't do anything. The others are right and PSI shouldn't be your focal point but the power you want to make. Depending on the exact specs of the turbo I see that motor making 325-350whp easily and reliably at about 12-14 lbs(I wouldn't go above that though). Make sure you upgrade your MAP sensor to be able to read these boost levels though cause a stock one is only good until about 10PSI. Also hire a good tuner and you'll be set.

Did you ever run this at the track, if so, do you have any numbers?

Is 17psi in a 18g the same hp rating as 17 psi in a GT42?

Also, it might take 17psi to make 300hp if you are running a small turbo or 2.5in exhaust or smaller and etc. There is too many variables that is involved.

you will need an intercooler i didnt see one on your list of mods and i would change to the arp headstuds just to be safe if its a dd.i would also go slightly bigger in the turbo size if you want more power

12.6@117mph on 22'' slicks with a 1.9 60foot... i had stock axles and didn't want to launch it hard.. finally got some drive shaft shop axles and might go back to the track this weekend.. i think i can pull some high 11's...

just going to say that, beat me to it. you can always tell the guys who don't have much forced induction experience.

Yeah when I was stock bottom end on the 18G and 17psi my exhaust was set up like this: Greddy manifold->turbo with stock WG flapper-> 2.25" elbow-> 2.5" DP-> stock B pipe->HKS dragger axle back. Needless to say it wasn't a good flowing exhaust and the 18G was a little turbo.

I had an RS with Turbonetics T3/T4 60mm trim, Tial Wastegate, Crummy Drag Manifold, Intercooler, and no internal mods. I ran 8 psi. Best 1/4 mile time was 12.9 @116mph.
I had a zillion other little mods on the car though which lightened it up a lot and stiffened the chassis quite a bit. I did this with full interior and of course the track conditions were perfect. Wind was perfect and it wasn't on a test and tune day so traction was good.

So I finally took the car to my tunner and the car after what I put into it, it put down 304hp @ 248lbs of torque. I will take it to an 1/8 mile this Thursday to see what it will do. Hopefully Saturday I can take it to a test & tune in Fontana Ca 1/4 mile. Car feels strong and it pulls hard. I am anxious to find out.

So I was able to score on a new Garrett T3/T4 57 trim turbo. Lets see where that takes me. But now I have a 5 bolt exhaust flange. Where do I find one?????

Did you run with good tires? Cheaters, slicks?

FastvtecCL i was curious about your setup.. What motor is that you were running in that integra? how did you get the turbo to fit and keep A/C and PS? Did you just remove the factory fans and run slim fans to get the clearance?

Look at the date, sir. Over 7 years ago. Even some of the parts aren't available anymore
