I dont like those compression tester it must of hated me or something. when i did the compression test the housing that you put it fell off the hose and it got stuck in my spark plug place it sucked but anyways, get something like that its fun to find out what your compression is have fun and have better luck then i did :-P
I just use the Craftsman tool, $29 or so at Sears. Works awesome, long enough to use without the extension too so no need to worry about an extension getting stuck in there.
It hooks me up every time too, I definitely cant complain

Yea, first time i do a compression test that head got stuck in my spark plug hole. I spent atleast 2 hrs trying to get it out, there was nothing that could fit through the ****.
yeah it took me a while to get it figured out and a piece of metal fell into my piston and i had to take my head off and put another one on. but thats because the weather my motor was pretty hot when i did it but i dont have a garage so i had to do it outside and it was cold outside but its ok i like my new head!

$20 at HArbor Freight. All you have to do is be gentle screwing it into each spark plug hole and you won't have to be worried about stripping threads, metal dropping into the head, etc. I've done 10-20 car a total 50-100 times and have yet to damge threads. Basically whenever you buy a car you should test the compression a few times and make sure your numbers are fine. I got 190, 190, 192, 192 on my Integra after I finished my head gasket. 192 is spec. for the cyclinder. Not too bad for a 15 year old car.
I bought a good compression tester from NAPA but the thing would not screw
back out after I screwed it in gently. Even with the hose close to the breaking point,
I couldn't get it out. What I'd like is a metal extension tube that I can screw the
flexible rubber hose onto.

You shoudl not use digital read out guages for compression testing it can be innacurate for evenness of compression stroke.
Your better off using a needle style guage that way you can see the sweep of each compression stroke as well as monitor the leak down, where as the digital tend to be peak hold style.
