Default Grinding in third...

When I am at high rpm's in second and I shift into third it grinds no matter how far the clutch is pushed in. How much does it cost to fix the synchro? Is it something that I can do myself?

I had this problem w/ my car around 16K miles....mine was covered under warranty, so I don't know how much it would have cost...they replaced the gear itself and the synchros...

Your gonna need the whole 3rd gear assembly ( synchro's, sleaves, gear)
And also install new shifter forks..
Can you do this yourself? I guess it matters how mechanically minded you are..
It would be a bitch if you did a rebuild and something goes wrong after you already installed the tranny back into the vehicle..

My car has too many mods to be under warranty. What happens if I don't replace it?

Wasn't this common for 2000 and up?

My R did that for a while, but I fixed it. What I did was buy several bottles of Honda MTF (Manual Tranny Fluid), and with a pump... I flushed out the tranny fluid. I did this several times then test drove. After the second time of flush and drive, the grind went away and it still runs great...no grinds.

Peace...

mine had mods too...if it isn't directly related (ie, final gear installation) then you shouldn't have a problem...

take it to the dealer anyway, worse comes to worse, they won't do it under warranty. tell them what the problem is and take it to a dealer...if one refuses, try another. ALL THEY CAN SAY IS NO! (just don't have them start working on it or you'll have to pay labor) have them look at it and make sure it's covered, GET IT IN WRITING B4 THEY BEGIN)!!!

So you flushed the old fluid out..put new fluid in...flushed the new fluid...and put new fluid in again?

Ive already tried. They are real dicks about it here. I took my car to the dealership because my car was shaking under heavy acceleration. The tech tried to tell me my car had to much power because I installed an intake and the mounts were bad. I told him that was BS and to check the axles. He checked the axles and one of them was bad. Then he called the warranty company and they said they wouldnt cover it because I had an intake! He said any engine mods would void the warranty. The thing is, I bought the car used with the mods on it from the dealership!! And they sold me the warranty!! I was pissed so I went and talked to the manager and he said they would just have to cancel my warranty. I was really pissed then. I just bought the stock parts and if anything ever goes wrong that is worth all the work, I will put the stock parts back on and tell them to fix it.

I would attempt another dealership or call Acura Customer Care...they don't honestly believe that an intake caused a bad axle!!!

Check out sema's website on aftermarket parts affecting the warranty, some good info there. take the problem higher and you should be satisfied eventually...make sure customer care knows that they sold you the car w/ the mods and the warranty...
