Farewell Old Friend (R.I.P. 98-1010)
***The car is now for sale. Please see https://honda-tech.com/forums/showpo...8&postcount=19***
Well a long journey has come to an end. 13 years and only 67,000 miles, 5 track days, countless hours working on her, a lot of fun and many memories. I was rear-ended coming home from VIR this weekend and you can see the result:
A little tribute:
Pocono 2005
Lime Rock 2005
Lime Rock 2006
Lime Rock 2007
VIR 2011
And the last picture I have of how she was:
Farewell old friend.

Sweet Jesus! I hope above all you are OK but I have to ask, what on earth hit you, a Hummer?! Looks as if they hit you dead center at a high rate of speed.

i hope youre ok physically and emotionally. if youre gonna deal with the other persons insurance, whatever you do DO NOT settle for a closed medical case. an impact that hard can have damage years on down the line and if you settle with an open medical claim they will know you mean business. 9.5 out of 10 people dont realize this till its to late.
as far as a settlement, id say top book value and you keep your car, or 15 grand and you can go buy that other clean *** 98 thats for sale here. good luck with everthing

Thanks everyone.
I'm not sure what I'm doing as far as picking up another or something else, or nothing right now. It really depends on what they give me for it I suppose.
I will look into the open medical case. Thanks for the information.

Thats disgusting. I am sorry to hear. Looked like a really nice R. Im not sure if you know but there is usually an option to buy it back from the insurance company after they total it out. You could part it out and further increase your balance for a new car, hopefully a new R.

Only 67k miles, it's too bad you didn't drive it more often and get the most enjoyment you could out of it... Sorry to hear this news.

Damn that is insane! Glad you are okay. So the truck that hit you was going 30 mph, when he hit you?
I was just talking with a friend about getting a Type R, but good ones are hard to find, especially out here in cali, majority of them are salvaged or rapped all to hell!!

I'd play hard w/ the insurance company if it were me. You're obviously not at fault, here, and we all know the value of '98 ITRs that isn't reflected in KBB's publications.
I wonder what the ins company will want for salvage for this girl. That's a nice, low mileage swap!

Damn! :/ I feel your pain (kinda). I got rear ended 3 days after purchasing my first teg. I was devistated and extremely pissed off, and this was just on a DC4! I can't even imagine if it was an R!
Materialistic stuff can always be replaced, eventhough the rareity of a well kept low mileage R is almost unheard of these days. Glad you walked out okay.
Let us or let ME know if you plan to part anything that is left. I could really use that ITR lip/USDM cluster. Good luck with getting everything settled.

It was a 55mph highway and I had slowed down to probably 25-30.
