Default engine issues

imagen that...

So on the interstate I notice she's kinda bogging down/sputtering a bit...

Today I pop the hood and see a small leak from one of the top nuts on the valve cover.. I ignore that for a second and pull my #4 wire and inspect it.. looks fine.. Take out the spark plug which is a bit black.. not too bad.. Then I notice a little bit of oil on the ring around the spark plug, sooo I look down into the hole and there is oil on the outside of the cyl where the spark plug goes into but the top looks clean and clear..

So I bang my head a few times and then try to tighten the bolt on the valve cover.. ok so it's loose... or is it? So I try to take it off.. yup not going on or off.. just sitting there spinning.. wtf?? I try pulling up and loosening it.. yea no go..

I guess thats what I get for buying a "Cheap" integra..

Any advice? THe car is mine I can't do anything about that.. No flaming on me rushing the sale.. just help me if you can please!

Sounds like you have a broken valve cover stud. Not the end of the world.

The valve cover stud is no big deal. I think your best bet would be to get a compression/leak-down test to better assess the situation.

hah ok

And it's more than just a broken stud hun

When I start the car the Yellow light on the lower left side.. can't remember what it says.. but yea saying my car is broke lol it blinks for a few seconds after the car is started (all the other lights go off and this one blinks for a bit)

we have the thing to do compression. I guess we'll hook that up tonight.
GOD i'm tired of working on cars..
If I could i'd get a new car..with a warentee..and i'd be the first owner and be able to baby it... I just have expencive taste in cars and can't afford myself

Most likely not. A broken stud could cause oil to seep into the area where the sparkplug is.

That's just the service indicator light meaning you are due for a service interval. There is a lil button under the dash near the steering column to reset that. No big deal.

Mythias is right, just the maint req'd light, no big deal. From your pics I cant tell which stud is broken, but again that is not a big deal. As for the filter unless there is oil leaking out of it I wouldnt worry about it. I would still get a check up on that motor.

IIRC it's fairly normal for a breather on the valve cover to get oily like that after a while.

BTW, your ground-strap is on the wrong valve cover stud. Where you have it is meant for the JDM throttle cable bracket.

Hmm.. I wouldn't be too terribly worried about it. Do a compression test. If that doesn't turn up anything, when you replace the valve cover stud, replace the o-rings around the holes for the sparkplugs on the valve cover (GASKET B, part# 1234-PG6-000). You may also want to have a spare valve cover gasket laying around in case yours is already damaged, or you damage it during removal (part# 12341-PR3-000).

It's possible that a few drops of oil dripped down to the plug when you changed the valve cover gasket, or that one o-ring was not installed properly.

stripped stud, same **** happen to me. its still stripped. seems like your crankcase pressure is too high causing oil to spurt out of that small thing with the filter on it.. maintenance light means you need to change your oil. so when WAS the last time you change your oil?
