Default Drain plug and fill plug

Hey i got a ITR tranny and need to change transmission fluid. How many quarts do i need? It grinds in 3rd so im putting a quart of GM syncromesh in. And which one is the fill plug and drain plug?





note that there's another plug under the axle

1 quart? why not replace all the fluid with syncromesh friction modified?

Drain the tranny, lower the car, fill from the VSS hole. B-series trannies take 2.1 quarts.

The lower one is the drain plug and the upper pne fill plug... What i will do is just fill it until its full... I think last time i did my, it took almost 3 quart

O i didnt read the last word... Thats the drain plug under the axle... that big one on the pic is the fill plug

Yes the drain plug is the one below the axle in your picture (farthest back & down). You can also see it as #13 in the pic below.

The fill plug is actually not visible in your picture. You'll find it directly behind the axle. It's the hole that plug #20 in my pic below. After reinstalling the drain plug, your supposed to add fluid to the fill hole till fluid starts to overflow back out of the hole. This should be done with the car on a level surface.

I find some clear vinyl tubing taped to a funnel works well for filling from this hole. Stick an oil-drain-pan under there to catch the over-flow. Feed the hose into the hole from above in the engine bay. Then pour the fluid into the funnel. Very easy.

Be sure to replace both plug washers. One is the same as engine-oil-pan plug washer, and the other is special.

2.3 US Quarts to refill the trans.
If you people had the service manual, you would know.

^just fill it till it comes out the top hole... but definitely put at least 2.3-2.5 quarts

Plug #15 & #14 in my pic are for removing the main and counter shafts inside the transmission. You really should get the OEM shop manual if your going to be working on your car....

looks like it. that's never a good idea. there are jack points on the car for a reason.

it was just a question...i work on my own cars alot...but i dont dive into the guts on the trans ...thank god both trans are minty fresh
