HMMM yes and no...It all matters on your setup. To short might not do the job.
You have to know the size of the rim/tire and see how much HP you are making and see if you are going all motor or turbo...ect....

Re: Does Final Drive ATS 4.929 cut ET (Pacman)
If you trap under 110ish, it will help because 4th ends at ~110 with the ATS. You will be in peak power for a longer period of time therefore acceleration will be increased.
I know that shorter gears help ET's because my friends chevelle ran .6 faster with 4.10's compared to the stock 3.30's.

I think you need to consider something...his tire size, he states..
With the car like seen above on 20x8'' M/T "baby" slicks the car turned 13.3@99mph with the ATS 4.929FD.
20x8's are almost 3" shorter than our stock 195/55/15, and tire size effects gearing just like a FD. Therefore he shortened his gearing evenmore than just the ATS 4.9, and geared his car *too short*..as some stated earlier.
As we all know shifting takes time, sooo w/the ATS FD he was talking about possibly shifting into 5th in the 1/4?? w/the stock FD he was able to stay in the meat of the powerband, because his small diameter tires had already lowered his gearing... the ATS FD was too much, so he was shifting too many times in the 1/4mile distance to be quicker than the stock gearing..
Also this was not in an ITR...
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

blah...should have read further down..
even he states he thinks the slicks are part of the slower speeds.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was thinking too that slick size could help with the runs with the 4.929FD. The 20x8'' slicks are really short - TOO short - for the ATS 4.929FD.
If I ever get the ATS 4.929FD back in the car I would probably run some 24.5 slicks on 13'' wheels, but at this point I'm done spending money on this damn car.

Correct.
Read rodneys post (last one in the thread):
"lemme get this straight, you have a stock R tranny, 20 inch slicks and 4.929? that works out to a 5.63 final gear!!! the gearing is way too short. with the stock 4.40 and 20 inchers, you have a 5.03 final. 20 inchers and 4.929 is too deep a gear, but that is my 2 cents..."

Re: Does Final Drive ATS 4.929 cut ET (Black R)
Exactly why it all depends on how fast your car is already. If you are pushing 125ish traps, the stock final drive is the best because you will be right at the brink of 5th gear, but 110ish traps allows for the ATS to be a great addition.
