Re: compression test on your B18C R
Mine has 165-185-185-185...
Thinking about a rebuilt.
Am I really going to feel a difference ? And a mecanic told me to not push it to hard because i could kill the engine.
Any comments ?
HELP PLEASE

depends what type of engine you have. ive got a b18c with only 190 on all four, but i dont have 10.6:1 or 11:1 pistons like b18c5 or b18c respectively have..
also, holy crap you bumped a decade old thread instead of just starting a thread in the appropriate section asking for others input..

those numbers are low for a jdm b18c type R motor. id be thinking with 11:1 compression you should be seeing more at the 250+ for results...and yes, a proper rebuild if those were the compression numbers you will feel the difference.

yeah that's low enough to feel a difference, I had 205 on all four, was blowing blueish smoke and still puttin down 174whp, got a rebuild and it definitely pulls harder now, I'll post my dyno & compression tests once my motor breaks in better after i go to speed factory!

Re: compression test on your B18C R
I always wondered if it depends on the tester being used. Some go deeper and fill the threaded hole more than others. This might reduce the combustion chamber volume and give a higher number.
Also I bet if you ran a full test set, and then dropped your tester before running the set a second time, you just might get a completely different set of numbers. This is the main reason that consistency is more important than the absolute number value.

Okay nice to hear! But still, im looking for a rebuilt. The problem is, there is sooo many parts that could be replaced, and i dont know witch one could be kept and witch one has to be replaced. Is there someone who can get me a list of the most important parts to replace? Im a student so i'm not rich

If you are rebuilding due to low compression, you are looking at....
- resurface head
- valve job
- new rings
- hone cylinders
- possibly new main & rod bearings while block is apart
- at worst, resurface the block (bore & hone too if liners are scratched up)
If you are strapped for cash, I would do the cylinder head & head gasket 1st. Getting into the block gets expensive.
