My car stalled this morning half way to work. It made a weird sound (which I can't describe because the radio was up to high at the time), and there was a foul smell coming from the car. After cranking it over for a while it started back up & I made it to work. Read the CEL code and it comes up as a bad MAP sensor.

So my question is, do these symptoms seem consistent with a bad MAP sensor, and how much is a new one?

 

do you have a vafc? if so, check the wiring and make sure the settings (+fuel signal %) aren't above 10% or so.. my car threw map codes and shutdown with anything more than 8%

 

No, no VAFC. I am running the Mugen ECU though.

 

I know in 99-00 SI, if you put the strut bar on backwards, it'll trip the map sensor
