Bye bye engine !

No. The rev limiter only works when you're already in a gear. It won't prevent overrevving on a downshift.

That head can be fixed. And if the crank isnt messed up and the cylinder walls arent gouged too bad, it can probably also be fixed. Just ship it all to me for free and i'll keep it for u!
I'll even pay 100 bucks!

heh, it happens. Such as life. You should see what an 18psi boost spike does at 8500 RPM
with stock internals.
Hmmmm. If he's looking to get rid of it, I may be interested. I'm not interested getting high balled simply because it has B18C5 stamped on the block.

You guys are f*%&C(!?!?! The head is scrap and the block might be OK if he sleeves it. Sorry about your luck.. dude.. I guess you had to pull some madd crazy 4th to 5th vtec shift and missed into 3rd, couldnt imagine that thing was pulling very hard that fast anyways.

I don't understand why people don't use their heads & use a revlimit.
Depending on the motor setup i.e. cam profile, compression ratio, general flow etc.
99% of the time a 1.8L setup with itr cams will stop making positive power after 8500 rpms. I.E. a revlimit of 9,000 rpms would be the highest you would need to set your revlimit.
There is no reason to be taking a motor past 9,000 rpms which does not produce power over 9,000 rpms.

This is one of the dumbest things i've ever heard. It wasn't the fact it was N/A.. It was because of driver error.
I could only imagine what would've happened if this car was boosted.

Do some motors make negative power after 8500?

To the OP:
Thanx guys for all the replies, i will convey the msg to my friend.
FYI on the dyno with stock ITR cams and a ported head, the engine was making power until 8800rpm then it started to drop. At that time the needle was was around 9000-9100rpm
