leave the cam gears alone. install the dizzy in the middle. start the car with that jumper under the passenger dash jumped. let the car warm up. when it's at operating temp and the idle goes down get your gun and you should have 3 dots pop up when you move the distributor around., the one on the end when you move toward the firewall is 18deg, the middle is 16 deg, pick one of those two. just make sure you're at 750-800rpm when you time it. the jumper should help make sure this stays stable.

16 degrees is stock. Adjusting the cam gears will put your powerband in a different spot so I would leave it a the TDC mark. maybe advance the timing 2 degrees at the distributor, 18. If not ,leave the distributor at TDC and do 1 mark advanced on the intake cam gear which will be 2 degrees advanced, and 2 marks back toward the radiator on the exhaust which will be 4 degrees retarded, which that usually works good. But every car is different. Dyno is the best way to know.

thanks for the help. I will be use a advance timing light with the dail on it. so i will set the dail on the light to 18 and then move the dizzy intill it read zero on the crank pully when shining the timing light. Is that correct of wrong. SORRY first time using a timing light.
