I saw the pic of the Spec II on the R&D website. That thing looks scary.. Race use only if I remember correctly..

lol!....thats my setup only with an apexi N1 universal muffler!...wicked loud!...then again my car is mainly asleep and awken at the track! with silencer its still LOUD! The sound is absolutely awesome and sounds like a full fledged race car!
also for anybody wanting that type of exhaust that setup- piping is gonna be under axle instead of OEM over axle!....but you want best flow?...well these type of exhausts are it!

Now, having said that, I took my axle back off once just to see how loud it was, and i don't think it was any louder then my magnaflow muffler on stock cat-back. I wonder if I could get away driving it on the street If I modified the b pipe to use with a cat, and used the silencer. I really like that exhaust, and I almost think it might be worth getting a ticket from time to time to use it. I was also thinking, could I modify a type one axle back to fit that b-pipe? that would be a really easy switch at the track.

Daily drivers I have sold to include an Si, ITR and Hybrid Hatch. I think this post is about the Spec III, though, which has a muffler. I was impressed with the sound. And, it looks like Jason has changed his screen name again, so I am not sure what it is now...I think its VADER NC...at least it was a few minutes ago.

Have to keep you alcoholics guessing
The Spec III kicks ***, period. It's free flowing, extremely lightweight, and VERY quiet at cruising speeds. With the silencer installed, it's identical to stock sound level both at idle AND cruising.
The Spec II is just too damn obnoxious even for a non-daily driven track car like mine. It's more suited for stunnaz like J.T.

Having heard and sold all of those you mentioned above, I think it is similar to the Type One in tone - pitch, yet quieter. I was very surprised how mellow it was. Maybe Jason can elaborate a bit more on his opinion or show some pics..hint, hint...

The Tanabe is the worst mistake I've ever made and yes, I've made many
Seriously, the two can not be compared. The Tanabe is extremely loud during idle, cruising, and acceleration. However, the Spec III is very subdued. I can't honestly compare it to the N1, as I have not heard one in person on an ITR. I've heard the Type One on an SI, but in my opinion, the Spec III is milder. HTH

Thanks Vader.. When I saw a pic of the Spec III I thought it would be very loud. Damn nice system. I've had my APEXi N1 for a year and a half, but think I might upgrade to the spec III. This is on a 2000 Si.

Nope, not loud at all. Here's a pic of the exhaust before assembly. If you'd like an MPEG, just let me know and I'm sure I can make that happen

Since there has been so much talk lately about the Kakimoto R exhaust, how does the Spec III compare in sound and quality?
