Also a pound or two lighter per tire compaired to Falkens or S03s.

Why worry about what's cheaper..... Mostly you get what you pay for.
Tyres are the cheapest and easiest upgrade ( or Down-grade ) for any car.
I treat tyres like insurance, Buy the best you can afford and then hope you don't need it.
Just my 2c.
Later.

I heard that Bridgestone Potenza RE010s only last 12-15k miles. That's a pretty short life. Does anybody here know how long Yokohama AVS ES100s will last?

Often it's much less. It depends largely on driving style.
I've heard of people going through two sets in 10k miles.

You get what you pay for. I went through the following tires on the R and here's my opinion on them. Unless noted, all these tires were daily driven & autoX-ed.
(best tires first, worst tires last)
1. S-03 (2,000 mi): Simply the best daily, weekend & autoX tires.
2. RE-010 (15,000 mi): Honda knows what they are doing when they paired the tires to the R.
3. Azenis (2,000 mi): My only gripe is that on 6" wheels, they feel like crap (compared to S-03 or RE-010). If you've upgraded to 7" wheels, these would be tied for #1 spot despite short tread life.
4. Pzero (1,500 mi): Offers same grip as RE-010's, but probably a bit worse wet weather performance. Also, the design is very archaic (~10 years old).
5. Ecsta 712's (3,000): Probably the most basic tires that is "ok" for daily driving. Wet tracting is second only to S-03's.
6. P700Z (1,500): Cheapest tires you can get that are pretty good. Nothing to write home about, but they do the job.
I wish I could've tried BFGoodrich KDW tires.. they are supposed to be just as good as S-03's.
All tires that I test were fully broken in w/o the new tire "greaseness".
edit - my grammar sucks.

My car has 50,000 miles on it, and I just started on my second set of RE010s last year. I do run winter tires for 3-4 months during the winter though.
