96 Integra Ls

96 Integra Ls
It all started 2 weeks ago when I lost my power steering I open the hood and found the belt hanging from the pump so I took it right off and keep driving after that it wasn't until I got home(7mil later) I found that my harmonic balancer broke loose and it damaged the keyway on the crankshaft so I took the hole thing apart. I replace the following
timing belt
belt tensioner
water pump
cam seals
cam seal plug
crank seal
harmonic balancer
motor mounts
serpentine belts
Currently the engine is operating correctly except for the severe vibration coming out of it it is strong enough to shake my rearview mirror to the point that I can't see thru it. The harmonic balancer is used but it came out the same car. This is a DOHC Honda B18B1 engine. I'm currently thinking the crankshaft was actually damage in some way that it will cause this extreme vibrations. A month before all this happened I had replace the following
fuel regulator
temp sensor
throttle position sensor
ICM
this was due to the car not starting during cool down period and the tachometer going nuts during acceleration.

Re: 96 Integra Ls
Well if your harmonic balancer (aka crankshaft pulley) broke loose, then yea you could've damaged some internals relating to the crankshaft. It is there for a reason, not just to run belts to the alternator, PS, and AC. But if you're not hearing a very noticible knocking or other worrysome noises from the engine, then you're probably good. I think the issue is the upper motor mount you have to take off to change the timing belt and everything you've just changed. You don't just put those back on...the mounts have to be done in a certain order and procedure that's gone over in the Honda service manual. I'd get a torque wrench, a PDF copy of the manual (the official HELMS one) and look over how to install the motor mounts. It's at the end of the engine removal/installation section.

Also, make sure you're torqing down the crankshaft pulley bolt to 130 ft-lbs. Those things shouldn't just be breaking loose. Also, loop off your power steering rack. Even though you're not running P/S, you still need fluid filled in the rack. And you don't want it spraying out every time you turn the wheel anyway.

Re: 96 Integra Ls
I've heard that there is a sequence for the installation of the motor mounts on this engine but my Haynes book does not specify any sequence or torque specs for them. Any idea where can I get that info?

No problem. Glad you got a copy. I would also check out the timing belt installation section and all of the other sections that relate to what you're working on. That manual is chalk full of great info. You can even just sit back and read it for fun if you're a car nerd like me lol.

Yes I found one that's for 1998 Integra and everything match my car so far even the engine code buts thanks for the warning! Tomorrow I'll be trying to remove and re installed the motor mounts in the sequence that it shows in the manual especially now that I have torque spec for them if the problem persist I'll be swapping the engine before taking mine apart to remove the crankshaft.
