what to do about map sensor code?! code 3
it came on about a month ago and put the car in "limp mode".....then went out of limp mode and after resetting the ECU, it came on again about 1 week ago......reset the ECU again and it came on today and my car actually shut off on the highway.....started back up and not in limp mode anymore.....what the hell?!
There is a service port under the dash. Most people have after market ECU that will give them info. Also, when put into service mode the check engine light will blink the code.
my most recent mods are Fields vtec controller (May), s2 manifold+64 mm TB(June)......first time code came on was in August.......someone mentioned soldering all my wiring for the vtec controller.......i just did that last week......gonna try removing the female/male connectors and just just do a single solder of the wires......or is it really just a bad map sensor.......how can i tell?
You may want to "solder" all connection for you VTEC controller. re check the wiring and make sure it is right. Since you replaced the TB I would check all Vaccum lines coming off of the TB and Intake manifold. If none of that works swap out the MAP sensor and try one of your friends, its only a plug and 2 little screws. If that doesnt work swap the ECU of that doesnt work check the voltage to the MAP sensor
do you know what the voltage on the MAP sensor should be?.........actually, i've had voltage drop problems lately and so did TypeC........when the car first start, the air/fuel is fine, but after the car gets warm the a/f guage reads lean, even though i got 50 psi of fuel pressure and a fuel contoller......my voltmeter also reads less than 14 V(between 12 and 13.5)....when it reads 14 volts the a/f mix is perfect on the gauge, but when it drops, the a/f mix drops too......could this also be affecting my MAP sensor?

hmmm im not too sure on that one, but it could also be a bad O2 sensor. What year and how many miles are on your car? Post it up and ask people that have the Honda Bible (helms)
i have the same problem. the other day i was driving around and my car shut off and i turned it back on and i had check engine light. got the code and it was code 3. the car would run weird....evertime the air/fuel gauge would go to lean the car would stutter and when the a/f would go back up it would run fine. revving the rpms to a steady 3000 the car would fluctuate the rpms to 2500-3000 all by itself. so i reset the ecu and drove around for 3-4 days and then on the way home the car started to stutter when the a/f would fluctuate and as i made a turn it shut off. but when i cranked it this time i had no check engine light. and has been running fine for the past two days. of all the other posts i have read about code 3 there is one thing that most everyone has in common...field vtec controller. tomorrow i will check all my wire connections to see if the problem is in that. how much is a new map sensor anyway?
a guy that is asking me for help just ordered a new map sensor......i'll email him and ask him how much he paid........someone also said the Field unit itself might be causing the problems
Ok folks listen up!
I have had the same problem with my 95 GSR for a long time. I also have the Fields VTEC controoller and just recently soldered all the wires. When I took the ECU apart, I saw that the SFC wires were totally disconnected....so I figured aha! Thats my problem. Now the wires are soldered, I put in a new map sensor from my friends old GSR t-body, put in a new distrubutor, from Ralphy of DRT ( i still owe him $$$ for that), and lo and behold, I hit a bump on the Grand Central eastbound, check engine lite comes on and the car shuts off, just like the rest of you guys.
Godspeed told me that the Fields go bad after a while, and that the vibration from bumps make it act up. Now I'm contemplating getting the Apexi V-AFC and then soldering the wies on that. Also a new map sensor from Acura would cost close to $150-$200.
Anyhow, I think that my fields is giving me problems. I have a very stiff suspension set-up and my fiedls is mounted on my steering column. I figure that all the vibration and jolts from bumps affects the Fields unit....so I'm thinking of ethe V-AFC now.
Aside from that my car is fine. I hope this helps guys.

damn, no wonder i got such a good deal on it........do you think if i put a pillow on the passenger floorboard and wrap the fields unit in cotton, the problem will go away?
oh well maybe i'll just get rid of the Fields unit and get a Profec B.......oops guess i'll just have to get a drag 3 also

checked all the controller connections and they are all fine. seems like the controller is what is bad. guess if i keep having the problem i will have to get rid of the controller.
GT eater:
yeah, if you find a way to dampen the vibration the problem will go away. I'm getting rid of my fields unit, Its way too old and I've had it since it came out. Time to move up to the V-AFC.

Disco mokey:
yeah just get rid of it. I wont even boither selling my fields to someone who may be unsustpecting......these problems are way too dangerous.
