Default VTEC TROUBLE

I recently bought a 2000 GS-R and the VTEC stopped working. It only works about 1 out of twenty runs. My check engine light also comes on sometimes too. What could be the problem, how can I check for it and how much would I be looking at spending. Also, how do I check the engine code?

PLEASE HELP!

I'm not sure on a 2000 but on mine there is a data port by the passanger kick panel. I'm sure someone will post a diagram for you. There is a plug there. I use a paper clip. Plug that little bitch in and turn my key on. From there you can read your codes.
As for your problems I'm gonna ask the most question to be asked. Have you checked or changed your oil? That's usually the reason. Low oil pressure. Let us all know on that one before we proceed to tell you what the problem may be.

code 22 doesn't necessarily mean he needs oil. it could be a lot of things.

ive always heard that just the fact that its such a high revving engine... piston rings arent perfect. I hear it alot about porsche gt3's, high revving engines just burn oil. but who knows, i could be wrong
