My friends Teg is throwing code P1259, Vtec System Malfunction. And the Vtec doesnt kick in until 500rpms before the rev limiter. Can anyone tell me what could be causing this, and how to fix it?

check the oil levels?

 

Plenty of oil, the light has been on for a while, we just now got it checked.

Check the VTEC solenoid.

 

if the code says its a vtec system malfunction then i dont think vtec would be engaging, and also wouldn't that cause the ecu to go into limp mode ? if so your probably hearing the secondaries open not vtec.

 

Well it could be the secondarys that we're hearing. I just know it gets really loud ~500rpms before redline. How do I check the Vtec solinoid.

 

I dont event hink you should be going into vtec range if its throwing a vtec code. You can check if the solenoid is plugged in, which it usually is, it takes finger effort to take it off.. But its to the left of the head when looking down at it, it has a green plug going into it usually.

and yea, it should be in limp mode
