vtec problem with new computer

vtec problem with new computer
i have a 96 gsr with a skunk2 intakemanafould i got a new chipped p28 computer for single stage vtec at 5000 and some times when i drive the vtec wont kick in and the check engine light turns on but only like half the time.
i put the old stock dual stage computer back in and the 4400 vtec dose not work but the second stage is fine and no engine light
do i need a differnt computer ,chip program or do u think there is a problem with the vtec silonoid
plz any help

check your oil....
reset your ecu (unplug battery for about 5-10 minutes)
check your ecu (where did you get it from, which program?)
check the wires on your conversion harness
trouble shoot

if their was a prob with your solenoid, it would not have worked with the other ecu. i think u may need a new chip. what program is on the ecu?
