This is a tuning tool. If you have mods then a vtec controller is used to tune your car with those mods and vtec cross over points and things like that. If you do decide to get one I have the apex'i VAFC II and I think its great. There is a new one out Apex'i NEO looks pretty cool, but havent heard anything on it.

it is a good tool, but you have to have an experienced tuner, tune it for you. Only get one if you have some serious mods, though.

it's very limited in it's tuning capabilites. but if it's all you can afford, it's better than nothing i guess. of course this is if you have mods that warrent tuning.

No piggyback "controllers". They are a sure way to screw up your engine.

Do it once, do it right.

I've heard that the greddy e-manage helps people in Cali pass smog when running a turbo setup. Other than that, save your money until you can afford something better.

If your ready to tune your car, you'd probably know this already.

Hope you enjoy your GSR when you get it.

You'll actually gain nothing by changing your changeover on a stock engine. After you start modding & choose your path, thats when its best to decide. If it were me i'd save for F.I. setup and make some real power.

e.x. If you decided to get a intake manifold, I\H\E, and type r cams or something then you would want to lower your vtec changeover. And remember - Dyno tunning > street tunning.

or raise it.. my fault, ive been workin on my car for the last 10 hours.

Whats your redline? Do you have an IM? Usually just having what I stated above with an otherwise stock engine, i'd think you would lower it. Also depends where your trying to make power. Correct me if im wrong, no shame in that... im no expert.

Aren't CTR and Type R cams the same after 97? I read that somewhere, not sure if its true.

I dont think you can just say "you should lower it" or "you should raise it with these mods, etc." I think you have to just dyno it to find the best point.. I read a mag article a while ago in which they put CTR cams in a dc2 and they talked about how the best place after dynoing was 5000 (i think). I not at the point where im going to tune yet, so in the time being my "butt dyno" tells me the best place is between 4800-5200 rpm's.

and no its not about where you want to make power. Its about a smooth transition between the two lobes.

and I know the exhaust cams of the CTR and ITR are the same. I think i heard that they were the same (intake) after a certain year but im not sure.

99-01 itr intake and ctr intake cams are identical. and with cams, i/m, and bolt on's you would most likely raise vtec. the stock 4400 engagement is already kinda low, but it's designed to work with the dual stage intake manifold. of course the best way to find out is on the dyno.
