What type of "Vtec controller" did you purchase? If it ONLY controls your vtec engagement point, then it won't alter anything with your fuel issues.

The V-AFC (Air Flow Converter), will do it to a point, but I'd try to fix the running lean problem first before using a "MAP sensor trick" to fix it.

A vtec controller wouldnt do anything except change your vtec engagement point.

If you think your car is running lean, why dont you check your timing? Advanced timing is what causes your car to run lean. You can adjust your timing by rotating your distributor towards the front of your car (towards the radiator). This will retard your timing. But you will need a timing gun.

A upgraded fuel pump is good if you running a larger fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator, and higher flow injectors. Of course, all these upgrades would indicate that you've built up your motor dramatically. If your motor is till stock, then so should be your fuel delivery system.

if you still want to go ahead with a vtec controller apexi makes a good one im currently running the vafc2 it changes the vtec engaement and also works as a piggy back fuel computer, but you will need an air/fuel guage so you would be able to tune it.

What? And how do you tune with a narrowband air/fuel gauge? tell me that?
Also you can only lean down with a vafc unless you upgrade to bigger injectors. So how you richen? with a fpr, but only to a certain point where your injectors are running 100% duty cycle. You bump up fuel with your fpr, then lean down in the rich spots with the vafc.

Again, one word...Wideband

well it does depend on the type of air fuel guage you buy i bought the greddy air/fuel guage whcih comes with a heated o2 senosor which is the next best thing to a wideband, widebands will just be way more precise and if you can afford they are very nice to have
