tranny problems, need some help.
94 Integra GSR
About a month ago my transmission started giving me problems. It won't shift properly, It is very notchy (unlike ever before). On occasion I couldn't even get it in gear. I was due for an oil change about 1 week after this problem started, so I changed my oil and the problem got slightly better but was still there. Usually, when the tranny is cold, the car shifts realitively smoothly, however, after running for 20 minutes it gets notchy. If I drive for an hour, I have to muscle it into gear. Now I went to the mechanic and he said the clutch seemed fine and asked about the transmission oil. I had this shop do the 90k mile service when I had just bought the car at 97k miles. Now I am at 120k and am ready for that service which also includes the transmission oil to be changed. However, if it was changed at 97k miles the oil really isnt due for service for anothe 7k miles. SO either my mechanic didnt change the transmission oil at the 90k mile service or It is something else?? Any help is appreciated.
Update: Today I changed my Manual Transmission Oil and the clutch fluid. After replacing both I went for a 45 minute drive. At first it seemed better but after about 30 minutes it got notchy and by the end I was back to muscling it into gear. There was a slight improvement but it is still far from fixed. I noticed it was especially bad when shifting into 2nd and 3rd. SO now that the fluids have been replaced and there was no real improvement, I am ready for my wallet to bleed green.

if its grinding then you may need to change some syncro's.
let us know more detail. is it in each gear or just one/two gears?
is it during normal shifting or just when your in vtec changing gears?
sounds to me like your syncros. that means the tranny fluid is just blanketing the problem and giving you more time. eventually they are going to need to be changed out or your going to need to get a new tranny.
just need some more info to desifer the problem. that would be the worst case scenario if the syncro's were going. thats why im giving you the worst possible news. goodluck man.

There seems to be a syncro problem in your tranny, of course it is a hydralic transmission. Most common cable trannys experience this type of problem due to syncros being "Harmed" or "Fouled" my suggestion is to purchase a new tranny if the situation gets worst, most people charge an arm and a leg to repair trannys. espeacially get new syncros
If your into upgrading your car or plan on modding it....then I would get an ITR tranny.
First, make sure this is the problem though. I just pm'ed you to find out more info so just get back to me. Its tough to tell in your post if its a grind or its just tough to get into gear.
What kind of tranny fluid was swapped in? Is it a stock GSR tranny?
Its usually always better to get a new tranny rather then pay the arm and leg for maintenance on it. You could easily find a GSR tranny right here on honda-tech if you need a new one.

If its actually NOT engaging then it could be your clutch. If your car has over 100k and still on the factory stock clutch it could be that. So, don't immediately assume its your syncro's. That was just a guess, by reading what you had for information. Could actually be your clutch that needs replacing.....
yah it is the stock tranny. When the car first starts up it shifts pretty smooth. After about 30 minutes you go to shift and when you go to put it in gear it won't go all the way in so you give it another try with a little more force and it will go. Usually there is no grinding. I notice it is always most difficult in the lower 1,2,3. Also, at higher rpm's you have to use alot more forece to get it in gear (6k-8k). There is no grinding, however, it will happen accidently when i try to put it in gear with the clutch on the floor and I put it in gear and will stay in neutral. I think my mechanic may have not changed the transmission oil when I had the 90k mile service?!? I am going to change my transmission oil and the clutch fluid on monday.

Note: I am having the rest of the 120k mile service done tommorow, 4/20.
