Default timing problem

So I changed my distributor to an older one from a DA and rewired it to fit my DC
So now when I turn on the car it takes a long time to crank and eventually turns on but goes all strange it will shake horribly and rev up and down and when i pushthe gas it will turn off
If it ever turns on properly it dies after 2 seconds
I believe its a timing issue what can I do

Get the correct distributor/fix your improper wiring job. It could be a "bad" distributor, however I would assume you didnt wire something up correctly.

could the wiring mistake possibly be causing this problem?
