Default Timing light/checking timing

I was looking at the local auto part store (kragen) and they have SunCo or SunPro I forget the exact brand.. and I also looked at Sears and they have Craftsman timing lights.. their around $50-90....do you guys have any of these? what do you recommend? I know some of you are going to say snap on but I don't think I want to pay a couple hundred for a timing light that I'm going to use maybe once or twice a year... give me some recommendations/input thanks..

also the procedure is to have your service connector jumped
and have your motor running at operating temp
while having the induction/pick up wire on spark plug wire #1
light connected to power/battery
then pull the trigger and aim at the crank pulley
stock is middle (of 3 lines) above is +2 advanced and bottom is -2 deg retarded correct?

thanks for any input/replies on this matter.. just did a tune up and wanted to buy a timing light/check my timing..

I don't know about you but, I'd go for the cheapest one.. I mean dirt cheap.. That's because they all do the same thing.. Other guns just have special timing gadgets for tuning or something.. I mean if you're just going to use once or twice, go to Checkers or Auto Zone and pick up one.. But that's just my opinion..

thanks for your reply the cheapest one I saw was around $50.. yeah I don't think I'll be using it all the time.. I just want to check my timing and make sure its correct and probably a couple of my friends will borrow it or something...

any1 else have any input? thanks

EDIT: oh yeah also what effect if any does it have on smog check/passing smog check (in CA).. I seem to recall on my last smog there was something that said "timing" do they actaully test your timing? or did the guy just pull the number off the hood label? if your timing is advanced do you have to retard it back to stock setting to pass smog?

haha I wish my dad had a timing gun to give to me he takes his car to the stealer and pays almost like $900 for an Inspection II
maybe I should wait for an "all on sale" sale at Sears or something..

OK i have another question.. what does "inductive advance" mean? like it says advance 0-60 degrees what does that mean? what does it mean.. it blinks the light faster or something for you to advance/calibrate it? *confused*

tell me what u think of these:

http://www.sears.com

Sears Item #00921023000
Mfr. Model #21023

Sears Item #00921027000
Mfr. Model #21027

or

what do you guys think of this one? it looks like it has the same features as the $70 sears one but for $29... is the bulb going to be all cheap and blow out?

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=40963

i saw some actron ones on Kragens website but at the local store they had Sunpro.. any input on those?

didn't find any on autozones website.. what do you guys use.. any input would be appreciated... thanks in advance..

oh yeah I looked at snap ons too.. it was a few hundred...
