stuck shift linkage
hey everyone, I'm in the process of swaping a tranny over and replacing the shift linkage as it's all rusted. I have the pin removed holding the shift linkage to the tranny but it seems to be stuck on. I don't wanna beat on it, in fear of messing the gears up or something internal on the trans. Anyone have an idea's as to how i could get it out or a safe way to remove it? Any help is much appreciated! thanks!
Is it JUST the lower rod that's left on there ? you can hammer around where the pin comes out with out doing damage. my guess since you say rusted it's fused in a sense and needs to be hit
Yes, just the one lower rod is left. I had the pin removed before and had just replaced it with a bolt so I didn't have to deal with the pin. It should just come off now since nothing is holding it on. I just wasn't sure if it was safe to hammer it off or not and didn't wanna take the chance of breaking something inside the tranny.
Rust is very brittle. Squeezing and releasing the rod should break up the rust to the point where you can wiggle/twist/slide the rod off the shaft inside the transmission.
Is it safe to try and seperate the tranny and bottom shift linkage rod by using a hammer though? i sprayed some wd40 on it already. I'll try some pb blaster next.

wd40 is just a degreaser. you want something that will break the rust down, like pb. other guys use something else, but the name eludes me.
and if you use a rubber mallet, or brass hammer you should be fine.
if you're still scared you could just spray it down with pb, and then grab the rod and just try to spin it. if the shifter is unbolted and the pin is out, it should just spin.

I was gonna give some of that white lithium ion grease a try, I'll have to go get some pb blaster. I'd rather be safe then sorry. Just wanted to get some more idea's/opinions before I started beating on it lol. I like the idea of trying to spin it though. haven't tried that yet. I'll give it a shot and see what happens.
lithium ion grease is just a lubricant. need something to penetrate the rust. to break it down. if you had a torch you could heat the linkage up a little and twist. see if it'll break, the rust
I ended up doin some drilling and got it detached for the most part. I'll post some pics soon. Also does anyone know where I could get the shifter pieces 7,8, and possibly 11 in b swapped93's picture posted? I see that they sell just the shift linkage rods for like $134 ish or the entire thing for $300. I'd rather not pay that much if i can just get the missing pieces since I got mostly everything else I need.

7,8, and 11, go to honda, especially for the plastic piece.
linkage, just go to a junkyard.
I just got mine off today. I had to use an acetylene torch to get it hot but shielded the seal and rubber protector. Beating it back didn't work, I had to lock the u joint by twisting the bar and using that to break it free twisting back and forth. Good luck. Hope I didn't break anything in my tranny...
Jack the car as high as you safely can, get a short handle-heavy hammer and a pair of needle nose vise grips with a screw gun bit. The one I use tapers to a square end. This locks it into the rolled pin and will follow it all the way out. As pictured. Unless you have an air hammer it's the best way I've found.
Like the bit better because it's shorter where every cm counts when swinging the hammer. I like it better than the bolt too. But your right as there are many posts addressing this issue.
