Starting problems
My engine recently started making a loud knocking sound. I was told that I had bent afew valves, so I bought a "new" head and had a mechanic install it. Now he is telling me that he is getting no compression from any of the cylinders. Has anyone here had similar problem(s)? By the way it is a 94 Integ with 97,000 miles with I/H/E, cam gears, custom regrind cams, etc.
yea, like pb_foot said, was it due to overreving/misshift, low oil, ect.. if its a loud knock it sounds like your problems inside the block not the head. maybe a rod or shot crank bearings.. maybe both. as for the lack of compression, we need more details
Well good news, the problem was "solved". Seems that the valves were tightened abit too tight, they redid the timing and did a valve adjustment. The noise was apparently coming from the head. The end of the exhaust cam (where the lock key or pin goes) was broken. Also rocker #2 was broken or split. I have no clue how all this happened. I was actually at a stop light when I heard the noise. Thanks for the assistance by the way.
Before you bought the head you should have had a mechanic check it out. You might have saved some money this way. Was the noise coming from the head or the block? It's possible you have a bent or thrown rod. What caused the noise? How was your oil level? Had you been racing the engine or what? Bent valves would sound more like a fast clicking noise while a rod problem sounds like a loud knock. Did your CEL come on? Did you mis-shift? This will help better understand your problem, but in the end, a person that actually hears the car will be the only one to know for sure. Did you have the Acura dealership put on the head? Was it an acredited mechanic that did the work?
