Starter Problems?
i have a 95 teg gsr with 170k on it. about 2 months ago my starter went bad. At first i thought it was my car alarm, b/c it broke so i stopped using it. ive heard that if you havent used the alarm for a certain amount of time, the car senses it and can lock you out your car or not let you start your car. Honestly, there were no signs at all. I woke up one morning on my way to work and it just never turned over. lights would just come on and that was that...
symptoms:
1. Sometimes it cranks, sometimes it doesnt.
2. Your battery is good but car still wont crank over.
2. When it doesnt crank you sit and wait 5-10 sometimes 30 minutes and then it cranks.
cure:
Take it out yourself (two bolts one wire) and go to a starter rebuild place.
Mines going 2 years strong after a rebuild and cost me $60, took 1 hr to fix.
I think a new one was over $200 when i was searching.

I took it to a place in so. fla called crank and charge where they rebuild alternators and starters. Just look in the yellow pages thats how i found one.
The guy said that water is what causes starters to go bad. I dont know exactly what he replaced but I think your friend was right or maybe the guy said the contacts inside...not sure.
