Default Starter Problems

Application is my gfs 1994 Automatic Integra LS. The car drove fine yesterday I went to start it up this morning and the starter clicks very loud but doesn't want to turn over. I tried to jump the car already thinking the battery was weak and nothing. The ground to the starter is good as well. I don't think it would be a fuse or a wiring problem because the starter wouldn't even click right? Any ideas as to what would cause the starter to click like its seized and not turn over?

check the bolt that holds the starter to the engine. is it tight? loose maybe? i had that problem on my integra. no luck, i'd just replace it, its a 30 min install.

i have had a similar problem with my integra and when the weather is nice the main relay would act up. it was doing the same thing that you described here. it is located up the steering column behind the trim and knee bolster.

if you need to rebuild... parts from toyota, yes toyota, they use the same denso startder as acura and it will cost you $20-30 not $180. it may be the problem.

take a hammer and whack it! if that doesnt free it up, then look to the relay. for what ever reason they are very weather sensitive in my expierience

dont forget the hammer trick only works if the contacts arnt 100% worn off like mine were. check the voltage to the starter coil with a DMM, it may be getting power but not enough to crank it.

If the hammer trick works, then the Toyota parts in the thread linked above will fix it permanently, or at least until they wear down again.

Fixed it on my old car several years ago and haven't had a problem since.

Kragen also carries the starter rebuild kit. Support your local Kragen!

It's funny because I work there and I was going to rebuild my starter on my break and I pulled the wrong starter from the back room. All that time I was rebuilding a Corolla's starter core. Doh
