planin for daily driver, ocasional track.

a spring rate is measured in force required to compress the spring a certain distance... In the US of A, we measure that in pounds per inch. Say a spring has a spring rate of 200 lbs/in (pounds per inch), then it takes 200 lbs to compress the spring 1 inch. For racing, the higher the better since the goal is to keep the car level, so you get a high spring rate to keep the car from leaning.

Now, springs are funny things. There are things called progressive springs, where the spring rate increases as it's compressed. If you look at a spring, look at the coils. If they are evenly spaced up and down the spring, it's a linear spring, meaning that it will have a constant spring rate through it's compression. If the coils start close together, then space out as you look down the spring, it's progressive, meaning that it will start out soft, then the spring rate increases as the spring compresses.

The progressive spring is best, IMO, for daily driving. This is because you can have a soft, cushy ride just cruising around, but once you get aggressive, the spring rate essentially goes up with the spring compression and handling will improve.

Hope that all of this is right. If not, hopefully somebody will correct me

I have ground control coilovers with 350 lb/in springs in front and 280 lb/in in back, and paired up with Tokiko Illuminas, the ride is great. It's a little rough sometimes, but it's bearable. They're linear-rate, so they not cushy like Eibach prokits. I would recommend the OTS (off-the-shelf) ground controls, but you may want a stiffer rear, just to help the car rotate more. I would go no more than 350 lb/in for a daily driver. With the setup in my sig, I've been pretty competitive in the local auto-x's and it's very stable around town on any surface, rough, smooth, and it's very predictable.

If you have an upgraded rear sway bar (I would highly recommend doing this if you haven't installed one), the OTS spring rates will be just fine. As for shocks, I like the Illuminas, just because I don't like to have "vague" settings like on the yellows. Illuminas have 5 distinct settings, but the thing is they cannot handle higher springrates like the yellows can. Which ever you chose, it'll be a good shock, and with the ground controls, the car will handle very well. Good luck

I got mine from diablo auto (motor?) sports. They're out of business, though. I'm sure you can find the shocks and ground controls from a sponsor. I'd browse through the listings in the sponsor marketplace or their individual websites and see what you can find. Good luck

Ground control Coilovers, free shipping, ~$285
