something is wrong with my engine - need ideas

I checked my spark using a spark tester thing - I had it set at 20...
It arched on each one... makign me think maybe it's not the dist.
When the thing idles it shakes intermidently... every second or so twice - when i hit the gas hard, black smoke pours out the back.
Right now my header isn't skrewed on hard enough to my cat, so when i rev over four it leaks a little... i'll tighten that soon.
But i'm still at a loss here, what could be making the thing not idle and run right - and or run so damn rich?

I could use an idea for a next step here, I guess it's simply o2
HAS ANYONE heard of a O2 sensor going bad without throwing a CEL??

Well, It was the O2... and it was so damn easy...
I just unplugged my o2 and bingo, the car ran fine again....
