Default slack in throttle cable?

is there supposed to be any slack or is it supposed to be tight (but not so tight it affects idle)?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by stock97 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">is there supposed to be any slack or is it supposed to be tight (but not so tight it affects idle)?</TD></TR></TABLE>

10-12 mm of slack (deflection) when you push against it, but not free slack.

When fooling with throttle cables there are two things I check. Not very scientific, but it hasn't done me wrong thus far.

1. Make sure the car idles good.
2. Make sure that when the go pedel is to the floor, the TB is in fact wide open.
