IS THIS SAFE?
I was wondering if it is okay to spray wd-40 o n the alternator,pw steering and crank belts, because someone told me that u shouldnt do i. Something around that area is squeaking real bad, and i have no clue what it is, thanks
ive heard people using it also and havent heard anything really bad, but you never know, it is pretty flamable stuff...that got spray just for belts at your local auto store, might even be cheaper
the squeaking is inside your alternator...you may have to change it soon my friend...other than that there is belt spray just for belts as previously stated...its one of those thing you will need to eventually replace...
if you want a temporary solution to your belts, any auto store sells a product called "belt dressing"
why would you use wd-40 anyway? wd-40 is a lubricant, belt noise is caused by the belts not getting 'traction' on the pullies, wd-40 would probably just make it worse. think of it this way- would you wet the road to drive with your bald tires???

umm... yes?

amperage will probably be fine, the problem enlys in the bearings if indeed it is your alternator that is squeaking. if when you rev the engine the squealing goes away than you have a loose belt (if you didn't already know that), the second step i would take is to go ahead and buy a new alternator, and be sure to keep the reciept. remove the belt from the alternator and spin it. remove from the box the new alternator that you just bought, and spin that. if you feel a difference and its rough or if feels like the bearings are loose than proceed to replace the alternator. if it feels smooth than continue to check the power steering pump, and a/c compressor. good luck.
