Default RPM/Vtec problem

just installed my new motor. when i go to pound my car, vtec kicks in around 6Gs. But when vtec engages, the rpms shoot pass the red line which is 8. It shoots up really fast; although the rpm gauge shows that it passes the red line, it seems like the rpms is still rising. it doesn't rise up in rpms smoothly like it should be. don't know what is going on. all the help would be great. oh yeah the ecu is the stock P72.

thanks

well....hmm...when you say shoots to redline, do you mean as soon as vtec engages it jumps to 8k or does it steadily make its way there but just at a rapid rate...? if it jumps to 8k then you might have a problem with your ecu, but if it goes steadily then i think that you have your self a properly working motor...

well, wish i could help.... bump anyways...

maybe your rpm guage is fragged... or the ecu... at least you know your engine is ok...

VTEC is at 4400 and the IAB's are at 5750. What you are hearing are the IAB's (secondary intake runners).

Ive seen somthing like this happen ... will it goto 6k like normal ... then suddenly the tac move faster then normal to 8k ? My friends 92 gsr did this when he first got ... few years back we just thought thats how bad *** the cars came.. but later he had problems and when he got it back never did it again ... it was weird at the time the car ran GREAT even tho the RPMs seemed very weird , Might wanna get it checked out
