Ok well since it won't let me edit my post, I'd suggest going to the dmv or call your local police station. They would know.

find a wrecked one or a shell with a good title and buy the title and vin off it. done this a few times. Although in WI the dmv dont give a f* about stuff so pulling that off is really easy. GOtta love it no smog, no brake tag, no inspection period.

what obama changes shouldn't matter... He will change something broad and the state governments themselves will be making the changes.

it's all great until somebody notices the vin's on the dash and firewall don't match. changing the vin on a car is a felony, isn't it? idaho doesn't require a car to have the vin on the dash; i've registered a car that had its dash stolen previously and they didn't make a big deal about the new dash not having the vin on it. might want to double check with your local laws on this though.

i'd say take your title (assuming you still have it) to the dmv. from there i'm sure they can check with your insurance (again assuming you had that, and reported it stolen) they can vouch for it being stolen and run the vin as it should match up with the car and they can tell you what to do from their or direct you to where can help you

They could also see if someone is using your vin on another car.

Changing or removing VIN number is against the law.

Talk to the DMV or Police about your problem.

yeah you really don't have to worry about someone ussing it because the second a cop pulls them over and runs the vin and gonna say its stolen. your car should have vin numbers all over it like 2 of them in driver door jam one in passanger door jam one in the window one on the wall in the hood and if you hae original tranny i believe that should have one on it too

You can probably go to the DMV and tell them the situation, theyll direct you what you need to do from there... In California theyd probably send you to CHP where the CHP may or may not issue you a sticker to put where the VIN # goes... or they may direct you to Acura to help you obtain a new VIN plate(not a new VIN #, just a plate)

here's the thing though; if the op's engine vin is run through the system i doubt it will turn up as stolen, as the engine and tranny were never actually stolen. i bet the theives will put the plates on an engine and tranny that they already have, that has been stolen. that way, if the vin is ever ran, it won't show that engine/tranny as being stolen, because the engine and tranny that the vin actually belongs to have never been stolen.
