whenever it hit 4000 rpms or just idling there is this noise that sounds like its coming from right below the shifter, like from the cat or something. N e had this happen or know what it is could you give me a shout back! thanx

Yes, I can't believe I'm the first to respond to this post because I think about 50% of the members here has experience the same problem at one time or another. It is almost definitely the cat heat shield. On my car (I have a gen2) it's a 2 piece thing, one plate on top and another on the bottom. The top one was loose, well actually it was just sorta hanging on by 1 of 4 bolts. I couldn't undo the bolts so I just ripped it off. No harm done. Next time I have my car up on jack stands I'll take the other plate off and remove the rest of the torn sheet metal.

any side effects of removing the heat shield... like extra heat?!?! I know I had that problem a long time ago and people just told me to remove it, but i never have.

4000 was a rusted out resinatior for me but i hear the buzz at 2500 is common too.... thats the 2-1 pipe on th header being cracked.

I had a buzzing sound about 3000 rpm. My problem was the downpipe seperating, which is apparently double walled, and buzzing at a certain rpm. It would have cost my about 500+ dollars for a new one, but as if i was going to pay that. Buy a set of headers and see if that fixes it

Try the cat heatshield thing first. It's free. And we all like free things. As for side-effects of not having it. I've heard people say your shift lever can get hot but I've pulled back the shift boot to touch the lever between the boot and the **** several times to check and it's still cool. The only thing to keep in mind is not to park on foot high dry grass after some spirited driving as it might ignite. Like we all park in hay fields often. LOL
