Quick Question
Hi, Can a bad ignition coil still start up a car? I have changed my bad ignition coil about five times using used ones only. Maybe the used coils are bad also? 3/5 seems to start up the car but the car doesn't stay on for long after reving the engine. It just dies then about a minute or two later it starts back up again. Would like to know what exactly what can be wrong with it before I buy any more parts. Thanks in advance
Kue,
Kue,
you should go get it tested to make sure, and I don't think buying used ignition coils is working for you. If it is coil then I recomending get a brand new one or upgrade to an external coil system like msd or something.
is there any other symtoms? Car not idling could be bad iacv and a bad ignition coil doesnt start the car. An ignition coil going bad will have a symtom of making the engine recline earlier than when it suppose to.

Main relays have a tendency to die on hot days, at least I was told. Also you may want to pull your ICM out of your dizzy and have AutoZone test it. The test for the coil is also very simple, just look it up in you repair manual and use a basic digital multimeter
Ok. I just bought a new ignition coil and switch it out and also a new main relay. Still the same problem. The car seems to stall when the engine is hot! Any other suggestion would be really helpful.
Sorry, nsxtasy, I should make my topic more detailed next time.

Oullet the Ignition Control Module out of the Dizzy and take it to AutoZone and have it tested. Just make sure that they run 7-10 tests on it so that it gets hot. Its a normal problem to have the ICM fail when it gets hot, just luckily it is an easy part to get to and remove. Is there a CEL and are you sure it isnt a bad fuel filter or something like that?

Multimeters work wonders... thats all i gotta say with that
many things to check b4 just buying any old part... i say buy Manual and Multimeter.
With ign. coil for future reference, you can test it with Multimeter by checking voltage on the posts in dizzy(primary&sec post) They need to be within certain range to startup car. Manual has ranges posted in there....
Main relay can also be tested with Multimeter. You can check in manual to see what prongs are for what in relay. You can test it as well with electrical wire.
Check your ICM as well... the people at autozone are retarded(tookem 10 min to figure out their own digital voltmeter) in my opinion since they told me i needed new ICM when i had similar problem as yours... checked my icm after they had said and they were wrong.. ended up being main relay and ign. coil.
You can also check your spark plugs... new? old? Test em.
Goodluck! Keep us updated..
