Default Question about carsound cat

I have a tanabe racing medallion, does anyone know what size piping those are? I want to get a carsound cat for my car and i was wondering what size i should get. Also, the carsound cat does not have bolt up flanges on it, can those be welded on at a shop? And can someone explain why some have 02 bungs and some dont?

The Tanabe was 2.25 or 2.38, cant remember right now. Get a 2.25 carsound cat, and yes any shop can weld flanges to bolt it up. The o2 bungs are there for obd2 cars, and the ones w/o the bungs are obd1. http://www.testpipes.com has bolt on carsound cats ready to go, all together so you just pop it right on, think they were like $90 tho.

That was pretty much the only one I found, just snag urself a universal and take it to an exhaust shop and let them go to work.

Not 100% sure, but I would bet my money that the TRM is 2.37".

What header are you running?

Yea I'm pretty sure the dc headers are 2.25 with the exception of the jdm dc 4-1 which is 2.5". You need one of the 53000 series cats. If you cant find anything online im sure one of the exhaust shops can get them, or speed shops for that matter.

Not running a header aye...

Well if your going to keep stock header, forget about getting a cat right now.

When/If you plan on getting a header with a 2.5" collector, then go ahead and get the 2.5" Carsound cat. As for the flanges/o2 bungs/etc. just save yourself the trouble and get one ready made from either SMS Products or IPS Racing(see sig).

Don't worry about your TRM, you don't need to re-do that piping. Unless you plan on pushing 200+whp.

Thx for the info!!! Silverb18 I am in no way bashing on ur prices, but i was wondering why your bolt up cats are 185 and testpipes are 89? Like i said Im not trying to disrespect you or anything whats the difference between your guys' cats thats worth 100 bux?

Yo, I second that. I just spoke with testpipes.com and they said I could get a carsound cat ready to go with welded flanges and all for $95 and that includes shipping. But, since I have a 96 w/OBD2 there might be problems with throwing a CEL code. Thats's the part that's confusing since the bolt-on cat has an o2 bung welded on as well, but the lady said there still could be a problem.

What makes the bolt-on cats at ipsracing better than testpipes.com?

IPS Racing uses carsound cats done by David @ SMS Products. If you do a search for user SMSP you'll find that his work is highly recognized. He uses the highest quality flanges and bungs. Spot welds the heatsheild so it won't ever come lose and rattle. The fit is 100% perfect.

I haven't heard to much about testpipe.com cats.

ok so you guys dont make them, thats why ur charging more, because you have to go through another party. That makes perfect sense, you have to make money, i understand. I only wanted to spend around a 100 bux all together but if you gaurantee they will fit then i guess ill save some more money

All USDM headers that bolt to the stock cat are 2". I'm not aware of any off-the-shelf headers with a 2.25" collector.

hmmm isnt it a good thing to have all your piping the same diameter so there are no bottlenecks? If thats so then my TRM piping is too small.

2.5"(header) 2.5"(cat) 2.37"(cat back) is fine.

Unless you have plans to put down 200-210+whp, I wouldn't even worry about it.
