Default pulled over rhd conversion and state ref'd California !!! read before rhd conversion

so i was driving in burbank, ca when i was making a turn a pig on a bike pulls me over for looking suspicious, the first thing he does is goes to the see the vin number on the dash with his light . and says i havent seen one of these (meaning the rhd ; by the way its a rhd converted da9). he starts asking me how did i get this car into the states and tells me its illegal ...blah blah blah ... he asks for my reg. license etc.. and askes me if i have anything illegal under my hood i say no and he asks me to open it so i do he notices that i have a b20 and says that the b20 is illegal in the state and he keeps looking around and notices that the vin number on the firewall is different that the other one on the dash cause of my conversion (stupid me didnt change that one) so what ends up is my car being towed. I got a citation for modified vin numbers and got sent to the state ref for the motor. The case turns into theft cause of the vin number it ends up going to a detective. the detective is only suppose to check the other vin numbers on the car and release it (stated the cop) but no the stupid detective says its a japanese car and doesnt check the vin numbers, i must have explained the situation to the detective 3 times finally he gets it and says why didnt u tell me the truth in the first place in my mind thinking this guy is so stupid !!!!! i was furious .so my car has to sit at the pound for 30 days until court day which is march 18, 2008

my question is how can i make my b20 state certified or do i have to switch it back to b18 , the only mods i have on my b20 is a skunk 2 manifold and a dc header

also what can i do to take the charges from the towing which are gonna be over $1400 can i file an appeal and has any one got sent to court for their rhd ?????

First of all, if it truly is a JDM RHD DA then 99% of the time it was done illegally. Emissions for japanese vehicles and US vehicles differ a lot. B20 motors, which are truck motors are illegal in cars. I want to see the outcome of this one...best of luck to you.

i will agree yes the b20 motor is illegal and will not ref, but its a rhd conversion and not a jdm da, so therefore you should be able to appeal that as long as you get your ls motor back in and pass state ref, everything should come out good. keep us posted

So driving on the right side doesnt look suspecious? Of course it does, think from the perspective of law enforcement.

On top of that you overlooked or got lazy or did care about matching your VIN numbers. I can tell you right now that if you took the time to pay attention to details, you wouldnt have gotten towed.

Then you lied to the cop. He asks if you have any modifications, you say no, then he pops your hood to find a B20 Dude, just be upfront. You're not helping your case by lying to the officer.

If you research for even a minute, you'd find out that a B20 is flat out illegal in a car chassis. B20 is considered a SUV motor and will never pass BAR.

I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but it's frustrating when people mod their cars with clearly illegal parts - then complain that they got pulled over and blame the cop. If you choose to disregard the law then simply be prepared to deal with the consequences. This is California, you know.

I like how, by all of us living in california and driving modded imports, we all know about the california motor vehicle laws, much more than any other people in other states.

This man speaks the truth.

You could have avoided SOME hassle by having the right VINs. As stated the B20 is illegal and so is lying to a police officer. Why do you blame the cop for your mistake?

chill out guys, he's only 19, we were young and dumb at one point...you live you learn...just makes sure you get that motor swapped out and a new one replaced properly. As for the JDM conversion, I dont know what to tell you. Im sure there are a couple memebers here that can chime in on this.

So you had the JDM firewall/VIN but re-riveted the U.S VIN on your dash?

Isn't that a felony? You're lucky you didn't get charged with anything?

talk about making it easy for them to get you lol.

gotta think about it from the cops perspective.

to him, he knows that somethings up cause its rhd.
in his head he is thinking
a. this car is a japanese model and is probably vin swapped.
b. has other mods that are illegal.

Next time you should maybe get your vin verified before hitting the roads, and also get the car BAR'd with a legal motor. Since it will happen again.

bump I have a RHD da too...Im driving it with no vins when I get home from work Im going to put them on ASAP dash board and fire wall. I dont wanna run into this situation what so ever. I did once when I crashed the DA on the freeway. It was around 1am and the steering linkage came loose crashed into the wall than crossed all lanes and eneded up on the shoulder facing towards the cars coming myway. Thank god there was no one on the freeway that night. Anyways I moved the car as if it look like it broke down ran up the the gas station called my girl to come get me to use her AAA membership to get the DA home real quick. Once she picked me up we rolled down the on ramp to the 60freeway in cali. and there was 2 cops searching the car the hood was open. the doors were open, and trunk. they had flash lights on everything when I pulled up. The cop said is this your Car (scared to tell them it was cause my licence was suspended and i had a warrant) I said no Sir we were following my brother inlaw home and the steering linkage came loose and he lost control. The cops asked if he was Ok I said yes sir hes a bit shaken up and scared but hes waiting for the tow truck to meet him so we can get it home. The cops noticed the vin and the motor b20 I told the cop look I told my brother inlaw to drive it home so we can finish the car it is a project car and needs more work we just drove it home for a test to make sure it runs. I gave him all the correct paper work he ran the numbers and said ok well make sure you get this car home with no problems. Than we sat there and talked about the car for 30 mins. If your chill and calm with cops they can be cool...Plus if you wanna get away with something you have to make your lies believable... I know its long but its information

theres one way to fix this.... DONT LIVE IN CALI. ha, here in pa the cops dont give a **** bout anything really cept for loud exhausts and loud stereos.

but i would definetely put the b18 back in and get the vin numbers matching and just be calm with the judge and police and you should be ok... then appeal the **** outa the towing fees because 1400 is just REDICULOUS.

you need to get it chp approved with any kind of vin discrepencies.

also bring the original firewall also. i would suggest towing it there.

but you prob wont.

He said he is going to SLAP a VIN on the firewall, like the VIN is a sticker and not PART of the firewall. HAHAHAHA.
