1995 LS with ACT HDSS Clutch and Clutchmasters Flywheel and New Honda MTF Fluid

I have a persistent problem that has happened before and after my aftermarket clutch and flywheel. Now and then, not all the time or even frequently, my tranny will grind going into third gear. Not as I let off the clutch- its with the clutch pushed in, almost like I'm trying to get into the gear w/o using the clutch.

What's my problem?

Bad synchros even though it grinds while the clutch is depressed? I thought synchros were what brought the engine rev's to the proper speed as you release the clutch?

If it is synchros, what am I looking at in terms of parts costs for DIY and then parts and labor for shop?

i have the same problem with my GSR tranny....it would grind goin into 3rd only at high rpms and now i changed the clutch and put on a clutchnet 6 puck and a fidanza fylwheel and now i get the grinding into 3rd during most normal driving....and sometimes 2nd at high rpms, sometimes.

im guessing my syncros are gone as well, but how come the change after i changed my clutch and flywheel?..thanks

maybe... you didnt push clutch in all the way..... i dont know

if your saying that your clutch is depressed.... and it grinds it might be the problem with your Master Cylinder, because it sound more like the clutch isn't disengaged fully.

or just a bad syncro

3rd gear synchro is usually first to go. You can double clutch it into 3rd and see if that helps.

 

I just recently started griding into 3rd after a track day. Low or high RPM, it would grind going into 3rd. I have a Type-R flywheel, CM stage 3 and a 205K mile 92 LS tranny. I just recently put in some GM synchromesh MTF and the grinding is gone. I have yet to test it on a track again but the grinding i used to get on the streets are pretty much gone. I figured, if my synchros are bad anyway, might as well try it. I suggest you try GM synchromesh MTF. HTH.

 

for jesus christ's sake.. use the SEARCH function!! this must have been covered 6000000000000000000000000000000000 times.. and its not really a problem.. anyone with a 5-speed will encounter it.. the tranny still works.. and it wont really hurt anything.

I would agree with this, I would say it is either your slave or master, try filling your slave cylinder with DOT 3 fluid from the slave (there is a nipple on it) till it comes out the reservoir (displacing any air) and try it. This is what I did and it hasn't ground since.
