Default a problem AGAIN

Hey guys,

I had big engine issues and now that they are resolved I got direction issues.

When I ride my 98 GSR I hear a TOC-TOC-TOC continious kinda noise. It stops when I either:

1) Give it some gas
2) Apply the brakes

The noise is continious when I am just rolling without giving it any gas and/or when I press the clutch.

I dont think its my clutch as there is no diffrence in its feeling, as well as I dont feel any vibration to go along with that TOC TOC TOC.

Any clues?
Thanks!

HAHHA...thats vague.

Where is the sound coming from? What have you done to the engine/tranny?

check your cam follower tolerances. Could be the slack between the valve/cam follower/cam making the noise.

Havent done squat to the tranny... for the engine.. a valve messed up.. it had a hole in it... when we removed my head we saw that no other parts received damage...

You can see al the pictures @ http://anima.homeunix.net/gall...l=car

The sound doesn't look to be engine-related... it looks to be below... I mean with my wheels .. a shaft... a beering.. a balljoint... (dont think its a ball joint though because I jacked my car up and moved the weels and there is no slack...)

Not sure if it could be a tie rod end or something...

Does it ring any bells?

hmmmm.... try jacking it up, putting the car in neutral and spinning the tires. See if it makes it and if does you can probably trace it.

you could actually have REALLY bad cv joints on your axles. the 'toc toc toc' might be the metal ***** moving which would explain why they don't do it under accelleration or braking since there would then be a force on em. But if they are that bad, then don't drive very far from home.

Not sure about CV joints..CV joint only makes sound when you steer the car.

my girl friends car had that same noise and only made it while rolling. on acc. we couldnt hear the noise. if it makes the noise while turning its a 90% chance its the axles. the cv boots may not be torn but the joints could be bad.
