Default Open Header??

I was wondering if running straight header could cause any harm to a motor. It would be on a 1994 gsr with just boltons... I dont think it can but i have heard it is possible from some people. Also what type of gains would i see at the 1/4 mile track? thanks ...

its not good to drive like that for a long period of time. i drove the muffler shop once or twice, but thats it. it can damage ur engine. u need some backpressure because ur ECU is designed to work with it. im sure if u get the ECU properly tuned, then u can drive with an open header. its really loud and kills ur acceleration.

if you want to sound like a beat up chevy pickup from the 70s with holes in your muffler, then sure go ahead...haha...

For N/A motors require backpreasure and for turbos you can run without an exhaust. Most likely you will loose some hp.

im running open headers right now, but thats because i had to chop off the pipe connecting to my cat because the bolts were welded on and i wanted to install my headers

let me tell u, IT IS LOUD AS HELL, and this is sr20, compared to what ur screaming GSR would sound like

i cant wait to get some time so i can go to the muffler shop and get this fixed, i fucked up my cut off wheel and a few drill bits trying to fix it

Sure you can run open header if you want, it will be just loud as crap. It will not hurt your car, its just loud. And that back pressure stuff is a myth from what i gather, it mainly has to do with exhaust velocity!

it's not gonna hurt anything other that your EARS and LUNGS from breathing all the fumes!

and as for performance...a lot of N/A cars at the track run open header for the fact that you gain a little top end...but keep in mind that you lose a lot of low end - mid range power.

If your running open header just to gain a few ponies here and there then you need to realize your driving an integra, if you want an all out drag car grab a v8 or something you can just beat the **** out of. If you want real power from your GSR then turbo the thing or just stick to modding it all motor. Who cares about a few tenths shaved at the track, is it really worth it?

I never understand you guys risking a perfectly great vehicle on gaining a few tenths just to satisfy yourself. You've got yourself a great all around car, why run open header? just makes no sense to me......get yourself a snail or build some real all motor parts.....ditch the open header idea.
