Default oil type question

whats up fellas?!? I'm about to change my oil and i need to know what works best for my 99 GSR. Someone told me to use synthetic oil for my vehicle because it will perform better. So i used synthetic for a good 5 months, then a mechanic tells me not to use synthetic because the vtec loves to eat it up and it's not good for the engine in the long run. Are there suggestions as to what oil brands work best for my car and if so why? Thank for the input yos. Oh yeah and one thing too...i tried using search option... but i wasnt able to come up with anything. All the help is appreciated...Thanks!

I use a synthetic oil and I have not experienced and oil lose of any kind. A synthetic oil will allow your motor to turn easier, reduce friction, and will perform better than a motor using a petroleum based oil.

Everyone will suggest a brand to buy. I would choose a synthetic that suits your pocket book and it helps to perform your own oil changes.

p.s. find a new mechanic.

i really dont think oil brand makes that much of a difference but i try to use only mobil1..as far as synthetic vs non-synthetic, that is entirely up to you and your driving conditions...you should, however stick to one type and not switch from synthetic to non-synthetic..i personally run synthetic in my GSR cuz it is a high revving motor remember.

Using conventional 5w-30 for now. Waiting for mild rebuild to start using full synthetic.
